Spaceballs 2: Mel Brooks, Keke Palmer and More Castings Revealed

Mel Brooks is heading back to the galaxy far, far away.

The actor is going to take on his character once more for an upcoming “Spaceballs” movie, as announced by Amazon MGM Studios on June 12. This movie is scheduled to hit theaters in 2027, making it perfect for celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original 1987 space-themed comedy that parodied “Star Wars.”

In a video reminiscent of a Star Wars opening, Mel hinted at his comeback on June 12, displaying text that highlighted the numerous sequels, prequels, and series from iconic film franchises such as Jurassic Park and Avatar. The text culminated with, “However, in the past thirty-eight years, only one has taken place… SPACEBALLS. Until now…

In a black sweatshirt emblazoned with “Spaceballs: The Sweatshirt,” the 98-year-old was shown on screen. He said, “After four decades, we wondered what the fans desired. Instead, we’ve decided to produce this film.

According to the studio’s announcement, it has been revealed that Mel will once again take on the character of Yogurt. However, they have chosen not to disclose the title, storyline, or any other cast members at this time.

For anyone eager to get a sense of what this upcoming movie might be like? The production team characterizes it as “a sequel that isn’t quite a prequel or reboot, but incorporates elements of both while expanding the franchise further.

Meanwhile, although the full cast has yet to be revealed, it’s been reported by Deadline that Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are returning to their original roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet respectively, and Keke Palmer is also set to join the cast. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Thunderbolts star Lewis Pullman will be joining his father in the movie.

Before further information is shared, Mel’s video ended with the original slogan from the movie, which is, “May the power be with you.
