At last, you arrive at the outskirts of Dawnshore, completing the “Untimely End” mission, where you’ll come face to face with the assassin who wounded you with a tainted arrow in Paradis. You’ll have several dialogue paths to choose from, but ultimately, you’ll be presented with the decision to forgive him and release him, persuade him to surrender, or engage in combat. Each choice offers unique rewards and outcomes as you continue your journey through the Living Lands. It’s beneficial to understand the potential consequences of your actions at this juncture since they may significantly impact your future travels.
In the game “Avowed,” your primary journey includes a sub-quest that ultimately leads you to confront Ygwulf. Initially, it may appear that Ygwulf, who attempted to assassinate you, deserves death. However, upon closer examination, his motivations become less clear. As you delve deeper into the story, Ygwulf’s actions might not seem so malicious. The more you learn about Ygwulf and the rebels, the more you’ll understand why they wanted you eliminated. This article explores whether it’s wiser to kill or spare Ygwulf at Dawnshore’s end.
What Happens When You Spare Ygwulf In Avowed
Forgiven But Not Forgotten
If I decided to give Elowe a chance and listen to her side of things, she’d make it clear that the rebels and folks from Paradis prefer being independent without the emperor interfering in their affairs. Whether I choose forgiveness or confrontation, the outcome remains largely unchanged. I’d suggest showing mercy towards Elowe if you’re intending to spare Ygwulf as well. Regardless of your choice, after navigating the cistern, you’ll encounter Ygwulf who, given our past encounters, is taken aback to find me alive once more.
In this scenario, listen carefully to what he has to say, as he believes he dreamt about you, considering it a divine message to kill you in order to protect Paradis from the Aedyrans. However, it turns out his interpretation was misguided, but he views your survival as confirmation that he wasn’t completely off-base. At this juncture, you will be forced to make a crucial decision. If you choose mercy and allow his followers to depart unharmed, Ygwulf will offer you some Adra, valuable coins, his key, and the Passage Writ, ensuring that they won’t attack you in the future.
What Happens In Avowed If You Kill Ygwulf Or Make Him Turn Himself In
Ygwulf Has Some Pretty Nice Gear
As a fan, I find myself pondering over persuading Ygwulf to surrender to the Steel Garrote, as Marius suggests this might lead to his gruesome execution. While it may seem like the nobler move morally speaking, it’s not particularly beneficial in terms of gameplay. You won’t receive any reward for sparing him, and the rebels will still attack you as you exit the city. Essentially, you’d be avoiding a battle but enduring its consequences, making it a less favorable option. It would be wiser to either engage in a fight with Ygwulf or completely free him, to avoid getting the worst of both worlds.
Engaging Ygwulf is an excellent tactic, rewarding you with the Blackwing Armor, a strong, unique light armor that suits stealth ranger roles exceptionally well. This armor offers a 30% boost to Stealth Attack Damage and increases your movement speed when crouching. Additionally, you’ll earn some Golden Scellings ($$$) and Ygwulf’s Key, and you can report to the Inquisitor for a monetary reward, as she will appreciate your decision to eliminate the assassin. However, keep in mind that rebels will view this action unfavorably, and you should anticipate potential ambushes in the future.
Why You Should Choose To Spare Ygwulf In Avowed
Ygwulf’s Armor Is Good, But Lying To The Ambassador Is Better
Essentially, it’s not beneficial to persuade Ygwulf to surrender since you don’t gain any valuable rewards and still face attacks from rebels. The worst-case scenario is that you either engage him in combat or free him. Engaging him in battle could be a viable choice if you’re keen on obtaining his Blackwing Armor, as it’s one of the finest light armors available at this early stage in the game, and the cash reward isn’t too shabby either.
In essence, freeing Ygwulf appears to be the most advantageous choice. Sure, you’ll forgo his enchanting armor, but you’ll gain substantial benefits, and you can always deceive the ambassador and Inquisitor about the incident, pocketing the cash reward too. This move will also make your journey smoother through the story without persistent rebel attacks. Ultimately, the choice hinges on how much you covet Ygwulf’s Blackwing Armor and whether the potential strain with the Paradisans is acceptable, but sparing Ygwulf seems optimal in the game Avowed.
