Speed into the Past: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Brings Back the Original Ingenium!

This spring, the much-anticipated anime adaptation of “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” will premiere. This unique spinoff series not only presents a separate narrative from Kohei Horikoshi’s “My Hero Academia,” but it also shares connections with its characters and incidents. One of the advantages of this prequel is that it takes place around five years before the original series, which allows for some exciting ties-in to the main storyline.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes serves as a unique prequel, unfolding years prior to the primary storyline of My Hero Academia. This means that the central character, Koichi Haimawari, encounters the very same pro heroes that Izuku Midoriya later meets. However, due to its earlier timeframe, these characters are in a completely different phase of their lives. This is particularly evident with Tensei Iida, who was the original Ingenium before his younger brother claimed the title. Interestingly, this series sees Tensei Iida stepping into a more significant role within the anime.

Ingenium Returns in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

In the original “My Hero Academia” series, Tenya’s elder brother Tensei is hinted at as Ingenium, a hero whom Tenya admired greatly. However, when Tensei is incapacitated after an encounter with the villain Hero Killer Stain, he is forced to retire. As a result, Tenya assumes his brother’s mantle and becomes a pro hero in his place. The spin-off series, “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” will offer fans a chance to witness Tensei (Ingenium) actively in action, as he becomes an integral part of Koichi Haimawari’s early vigilante career in the prequel storyline. It was confirmed that Masamichi Kitada will reprise his role as Tensei in the prequel as well.

Kitada expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming anime adaptation of ‘Vigilantes’, saying “I’ve been eagerly anticipating the anime version of ‘Vigilantes’ more than anyone else. I’m overjoyed! I can hardly wait to display, for everyone, the spectacle of Ingenium’s initial sprint. [Tensei] is an incredibly cool character. I will strive to portray his unwavering determination, burning passion, and combat spirit that resonate in the original work. Let’s embark on this journey together!” This excitement stems from the fact that he can now depict Ingenium as a hero in the new anime.
