In an exciting turn of events, it appears that two long-anticipated villains could potentially make their comeback. While the upcoming sequel is rumored to feature Tom Holland’s Spider-Man battling a fresh major adversary, a recent casting call hints that two previous enemies might reappear in “Brand New Day“.

View Urgent ForecastAs per reliable source Daniel Richtman, it’s being reported that Marvel Studios might be recruiting inmates for their upcoming project titled “Brand New Day.” If this is accurate and the film includes a prison scene, fans could potentially see the return of Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan. Noteworthily, these characters were last depicted together in a prison at the end of 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Excluding Keaton’s brief Vulture appearance in Morbius, which doesn’t align with the MCU continuity, these two villains have previously interacted only within the prison setting. In the comics, Mac Gargan transforms into the supervillain Scorpion.
In the time since the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, both actors playing the villains have expressed interest in reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One actor commented casually, “Oh, wow. That’s an interesting character, that guy. I was there for a minute in the second one… It was quite a fun experience, but I haven’t discussed anything with anyone.” Regarding Mando, back in 2022, he reposted a fan’s comment expressing frustration over the fact that Homecoming hinted at his character becoming Scorpion, yet no progress has been made in that direction.
What Do Fans Know About Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
In December 2021, it was officially announced that a fourth “Spider-Man” movie was in the works. However, significant progress wasn’t made until late 2024 when Destin Daniel Cretton, famously known for directing the MCU film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” was appointed to lead this upcoming superhero blockbuster. In March 2025, the title of the sequel, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” was revealed, with Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” joining the cast in a role yet to be disclosed. Despite this, there’s been much speculation about the character Sink might portray, with suggestions ranging from Black Cat and Gwen Stacy, potential love interests for Spider-Man, being tossed around.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are coming back to pen the screenplay for “Brand New Day“, having previously written all the Spider-Man movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Filming is anticipated to start once Tom Holland completes his role in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey“. Although an official production timeline hasn’t been disclosed, it appears that filming for the MCU sequel might begin by late summer or early fall, as suggested by Holland’s giveaway announcement which included a visit to the set.
I’m thrilled to share that as we speak, you can stream the amazing adventure of Spider-Man: Homecoming right here on Disney+! But hold on to your webs, folks, because in just over nine years from now, on July 31, 2026, I’ll be swinging back into action in the brand new film titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day! Can’t wait for that day!
