Spider-Man 4 Moving Forward With Shang-Chi Director

As a longtime Marvel fan with years of comic book history ingrained in my memory, I must admit that I’m both intrigued and excited about the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Jon Watts’ trilogy was a fantastic ride, but it’s time for new blood to take over, and Destin Daniel Cretton seems like an excellent choice. His work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings showcased his knack for action and storytelling, which are crucial elements in any Spider-Man film.

In a new turn of events, Spider-Man is set to reappear on screen under Sony and Marvel’s banner, with Tom Holland resuming his role as the amiable web-slinger. Unlike previous films, there will be a fresh face behind the camera directing the action, as Jon Watts has completed his trilogy with Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Taking over the directorial duties is Destin Daniel Cretton, and both Marvel and Sony are eager to start production on the next Spider-Man project soon.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, director Cretton is slated to helm Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland reprising his role as the main character. It’s said that filming will commence in early 2023, suggesting a potential release date in 2026.

In recent years, Destin Daniel Cretton has solidified his position as a go-to director for Marvel Studios. Notably, he directed the hit movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. Currently, he is overseeing the Disney+ series “Wonder Man,” starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, which is now in post-production.
