Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel Studios in Streaming, Television, and Animation, told Collider that the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” will have a new season each year after Season 2, indicating a long-term dedication to the show. Although fans may have to wait a bit longer than a year for Season 2, future seasons should follow a regular annual release schedule, giving viewers frequent updates on Spider-Man’s escapades. The Disney+ series, which concluded its successful first season recently, features an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn (played by Colman Domingo) guides young Peter Parker (voiced by Hudson Thames), rather than Tony Stark.
Winderbaum shared during the interview that he aims to release a new season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” every year. Typically, there’s a larger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 compared to subsequent seasons in animation, and this will be similar for Friendly. We might have to wait a bit more than a year for Season 2, but after that, it should follow an annual release schedule. This implies that Marvel is planning for the series to continue far into the future, with no apparent end in sight beyond the already-confirmed third season.
The announcement underscores Marvel’s increasing commitment to animation as a key component in their content strategy, bolstered by the achievements of shows like X-Men ‘97 and What If…?. By adopting this long-term plan, the creative team, headed by showrunner Jeff Trammell, can explore more complex storylines and character growth than usually feasible in short series. The studio’s faith in the franchise is also a testament to Spider-Man’s lasting appeal, as his latest live-action movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, garnered over $1.9 billion globally, even amid pandemic-related challenges for cinemas.
Everything We Know About Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2
The second season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man ” is creating quite a stir. Its creator, Jeff Trammell, recently disclosed that Gwen Stacy would be joining the cast, and he even shared a sneak peek of the character on social media. This news confirms the appearance of Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider in the series, but it’s yet to be decided if this version of Gwen will hail from another world like her comic counterpart or belong to the series’ own timeline.
As I eagerly anticipate the new season, it’s clear that the creators have plenty of unresolved storylines from the season finale to tackle. In the final scenes, Peter and his former Oscorp interns formed the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B.), backed financially by Harry Osborn (Zeno Robinson), who finally broke free from his father’s control. Concurrently, Norman Osborn’s narrative took a chilling twist as we learned about his clandestine work with genetically modified creatures, an advanced glider, and the acquisition of symbiote material – all hinting at his possible transformation into the Green Goblin and the advent of Venom. I can hardly wait to see how these threads unfold!
Work on Season 2 has already begun and gained momentum, as Winderbaum previously shared about the scripts. “I’ve gone through all the Season 2 scripts,” he stated. “We’re halfway through creating the animatics, and what Jeff is meticulously constructing for this series is gradually showing results.” Although a specific launch date hasn’t been disclosed yet, his remarks hint that Season 2 might be released around mid-2026, with subsequent seasons coming out annually after that.
