Spider-Man Spinoff Spider-Noir Adds Abraham Popoola

As a longtime Marvel fan, I can hardly contain my excitement over the casting of Abraham Popoola in the upcoming Prime Video series, Spider-Noir! With his impressive resume and knack for bringing complex characters to life, I have no doubt that he will perfectly embody the grit and determination required for this role.

Abraham Popoola, recognized for his work in productions such as “Atlas” and “The Marvels”, has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series “Spider-Noir”. This series will feature Nicolas Cage reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir, a character he voiced in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”. After much speculation, Popoola is now confirmed to star alongside Cage in this live-action series produced by Amazon Prime Video and MGM+. The character originates from Earth-90214 within the Marvel Comics multiverse, a world experiencing the Great Depression where Marvel’s superheroes are adapted for noir detective movie settings. Although Cage is not typically associated with television roles, fans have long anticipated his portrayal of this character in live action.

As Deadline initially reported, the actor Popoola is set to portray a character who fought in World War I, seeking chances for advancement. At present, it’s unclear whether this role will have any connections to the Spider-Man universe. Alongside Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li from Wu Assassins, and Lamorne Morris, Popoola joins the cast of this undisclosed series.

“Reflecting back on our previous discussions, it’s no understatement that I hold this character in high regard. I find myself drawn to embody a unique blend of iconic performances from the golden age of cinema – think Robinson, Cagney, and Bogart – and bring them together with what many consider Stan Lee’s magnum opus. This role feels like stepping into a vibrant pop art fusion, reminiscent of a Lichtenstein masterpiece reimagined through the lenses of Bogart and Cagney. However, it’s essential to stress that these are just intriguing conversations at this stage. Nothing is set in stone yet.”

In a statement, Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed that it’s a rare privilege to extend the Marvel universe with the series ‘Noir’. He mentioned that they are thrilled to offer this production to their worldwide Prime Video subscribers. Nick Cage, a highly talented actor, is perfectly suited for the role of our new superhero in this project. Moreover, the skilled producing team consisting of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the dedicated group at Sony Pictures are committed to growing this franchise authentically.

According to its official summary, the series Spider-Noir follows the tale of a hard-boiled private investigator (played by Cage), living in 1930s New York, who finds himself compelled to confront his old life as the city’s lone superhero.
