Peter Parker has gone through a tremendous ordeal. The latest issues of Amazing Spider-Man have put the web-slinger under immense stress, as Peter lost many loved ones and countless others due to Doctor Doom’s sorcerous champion in a pact with the malevolent deity Cyttorak. In the storyline The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man, Spider-Man endured excruciating deaths at the hands of the eight representatives of Cyttorak, only to be repeatedly revived and transformed into an unstoppable force: the Spider-Naut.
However, the most disheartening was Spider-Man’s foresight into a nearby future, where Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Bailey Briggs – who are all Spider-heroes – tragically lose their lives at the hands of a mysterious antagonist during an incident called “the Cataclysm”.
In a recent development, Marvel Comics has disclosed that the antagonist in the newly launched Amazing Spider-Man #1 is none other than Hellgate. This villain emerged from obscurity to give Spider-Man a hard time in the comic series. The new issue, penned by Joe Kelly and illustrated by Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr., represents issue 965 of the Amazing Spider-Man series. Later this year, a monumental clash with Hellgate will take place in Amazing Spider-Man #11, leading up to the significant Issue 975.
