It’s been almost a decade since Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man, entered the primary Marvel Universe during the “Secret Wars” storyline. This event brought together Earth-616 and Earth-1610, causing a reality-altering collision that ultimately destroyed both universes due to the incursion. Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four managed to restore these realities. However, it was the villainous Maker, an altered version of Reed Richards from the original Ultimate Universe, who later manipulated time to restructure and recreate the world into a new version of the Ultimate Universe: Earth-6160. In simpler terms, it’s been ten years since Miles Morales became part of the main Marvel Universe in the “Secret Wars” event, which resulted in the merger and destruction of two separate universes. The villain Maker, a corrupted Reed Richards from another universe, then used time travel to rebuild and transform the world into a new version of the Ultimate Universe called Earth-6160.
In an altered version of events, the Maker designed it such that the Fantastic Four never came into being, the Avengers didn’t unite as Earth’s strongest team, and Peter Parker had no encounter with a radioactive spider. It wasn’t until Tony Stark, also known as Iron Lad, traveled through time in this reality to rectify the situation, that Peter received his spider-related abilities – twenty years late from when he should have been endowed with incredible powers and an immense sense of duty.
On planet Earth-6160, a man named Peter Parker, aged 35, is married to Mary Jane and has two kids – a daughter May and a son Richard. Richard now uses a picotech A.I. suit and goes by the name of black-suited Spider-Man. In the upcoming series Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, these two Spider-Men will encounter Miles Morales, marking the initial crossover between Earth-616 and Earth-6160 in the new Ultimate Universe.
As a passionate comic book fan, I’ve been eagerly following “The Ultimates” series penned by Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar, alongside the stunning artwork of Jonas Scharf. This five-issue journey finds me, Miles Morales, venturing into the Ultimate Universe due to an unfortunate accident involving my baby sister, Billie. You might recall that I had a brief encounter with the Maker way back in Hickman and Bryan Hitch’s “Ultimate Invasion” #1 from 2023. During our meeting, the Maker handed me a blank card for use whenever I desired to revisit this seemingly lifeless universe.
Before the first issue of “Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion” hits shelves on June 4, a prelude to this crossover event will be featured in the free one-shot issue titled “Free Comic Book Day 2025: Amazing Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe #1″, which will be available on May 3. The prelude story is written by Camp & Ziglar & Scharf, and a new story by the creative team of “Amazing Spider-Man” (writer Joe Kelly and artist John Romita Jr.) will also be included.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Camp shared an interesting perspective: ‘The Maker, contrary to what he claims, isn’t entirely rational.’ He can be petty, emotional, and even sentimental at times. Since they are the last survivors of their universe, the Maker seems to hold a special affection for Miles, much like we all feel about someone from our hometown.
Ziglar stated, “I can’t reveal too much, but Miles and Billie’s adventures in the Ultimate Universe will undoubtedly have a significant, entertaining impact on the 616 universe!” Have a look at the newly released preview pages, which summarize the latest happenings from Ziglar’s ongoing series, Miles Morales: Spider-Man.
