Spider-Noir: Nicolas Cage Featured in First Photos From Spider-Man Spinoff Series

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Spider-Noir series starring the one and only Nicolas Cage has me absolutely thrilled! The photos released so far are a tantalizing glimpse into the gritty, Noir-inspired world that this show promises to deliver.

In a sneak peek from the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff television series airing on MGM+, Nicolas Cage portraying the character of Spider-Noir looks somewhat distressed. The images reveal Cage in his detective attire, complete with a trench coat, enacting an odd scene where he’s both kneeling and lying down, evading or escaping from an unseen threat or attacker. Despite being in color, the series aims to emulate the style and atmosphere of classic film noir. Here, Cage takes on the role of a private investigator struggling with his past as the sole superhero of 1930s New York City, who is compelled to confront his history once more.

In the pictures, you can see a setting that seems perfect for the show’s Noir mood while also highlighting Cage’s eccentric, offbeat personality, which most viewers have expressed a desire to experience with this character.

The specific tale that Spider-Noir will unfold remains largely undefined; in the comic books, the character is set in Earth-90214 and depicts a gritty, Noir-style New York City. This Peter Parker transforms into a hardboiled, gun-wielding investigative journalist who, under cover of darkness, fights crime and corruption as The Spider-Man in black attire. The Spider-Man Noir limited series, penned by David Hine (Daredevil: Redemption) and Fabrice Sapolsky (Image’s One-Hit Wonder) and illustrated by Carmine Di Giandomenico (All-New X-Factor), broadened the character’s universe and roster of characters, featuring notable figures such as mob boss Norman “The Goblin” Osborn, who led The Enforcers gang, along with carnival workers turned henchmen like Kraven (a former animal trainer), the Vulture (an animalistic freak show cannibal), and the Chameleon (a master of disguise). Many fans are familiar with Spider-Man Noir from the successful animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which also starred Nic Cage as the voice actor. This live-action adaptation could potentially confuse casual viewers, who may anticipate the fantastical realm of Spider-Verse when approaching this project.

In the upcoming series Spider-Noir, Lamorne Morris from “New Girl” will share the screen as Robbie Robertson. Also joining the cast are Lukas Haas known for “Inception”, Cameron Britton famed for “Mindhunter”, Cary Christopher well-known for “Days of Our Lives”, Michael Kostroff recognized from “Luke Cage”, Scott MacArthur popular in “The Righteous Gemstones”, Joe Massingill famous for “Barry”, Whitney Rice familiar from “Jury Duty”, and Amanda Schull, a notable face from “Suits”. Each of these actors will appear in recurring roles.

Harry Bradbeer, a director who has won an Emmy for his work on shows like “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve,” is taking charge of directing the series and will also produce the first two episodes in executive capacity. Oren Uziel (“The Lost City,” “22 Jump Street”) and Steve Lightfoot (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Shantaram”), both serving as co-showrunners, will also act as executive producers along with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal – the Oscar-winning team behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Noir will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel, then globally on Prime Video in 2025.
