As someone who’s spent countless hours immersed in the gritty underworld of cyberpunk games and action movies, the latest trailer for SPINE has me absolutely thrilled! The dynamic camerawork, reminiscent of iconic scenes from John Wick Chapter 4 and Old Boy, is a testament to Nekki’s commitment to delivering an immersive cinematic experience.

In a recent update, Nekki unveiled a fresh trailer and images for their upcoming single-player, narrative-driven action game titled “SPINE“. The sneak peeks offer glimpses of advanced camera movements, fresh gameplay sequences, and the innovative spray paint mechanic.

According to the director of SPINE, Dmitry Pimenov, their goal is to revolutionize the concept of cinematic action within gaming. They believe that if there’s an exciting event occurring on screen, it should be integrated into gameplay instead of being a passive cutscene. To achieve this, they’re utilizing their own Intellectual Camera System, which automatically selects the most visually appealing angles for the action without disrupting gameplay. Additionally, they’re open to daring camera choices, such as using pre-set cameras in certain scenes. Some of these decisions are influenced by memorable moments from popular action films like John Wick Chapter 4 and Old Boy, which you might notice reflected in today’s teaser.

Here is an overview of the game, via Nekki:

About

In this game, you assume the character of Redline, a defiant street artist, who teams up with her sentient battle companion, Spine. Together, you’ll stand against the oppressive AI government of Tensor Corporation, developing mutual trust as you progress through the narrative-driven action experience.

In SPINE, camera work and fight sequences are expertly crafted by action film stunt professionals, using both Unreal Engine 5 and Nekki’s proprietary animation engine, Cascadeur. This allows players to become the main characters in their very own action movie, ensuring that every battle is unique.
