Interestingly, there may have been a hint about Donovan’s ability hidden in plain sight all along, subtly foreshadowing this massive twist.
In Chapter 110 of “Spy x Family”, Melinda shares that Donovan underwent a significant transformation a few years back, around when Damian was born. She speculates this sudden shift in behavior might be due to an extraterrestrial taking over her husband’s body, and this alien is said to possess the ability to read minds. However, subtle scars on Donovan’s head hint at his change in personality and mind-reading abilities possibly being the result of surgical intervention or scientific experiments. The latest chapter provides a connection between these two points.
A notable detail about Donovan Desmond that some might have observed is the small thread marks on either side of his temples, often hidden by the patterned haircut he sports. These marks appeared as early as Donovan’s debut in Chapter 37 and his encounter with Loid. Until now, fans had limited evidence to suggest that Donovan was a telepath, let alone understand the connection between these stitches and his supposed abilities.

There’s a chance that the very procedure that bestowed these extraordinary powers upon me might have inadvertently transformed my personality as well.
In essence, it appears that Anya and Donovan’s abilities might be linked to each other and Project Apple, hinting at a possible key to uncovering more about Anya’s background and the origin of her powers in the Spy x Family series.
