As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I have witnessed the ebb and flow of the industry like the tides of time itself. The prospect of Final Fantasy VII Remake series gracing the Xbox platform is akin to discovering a long-lost treasure chest filled with rare artifacts – exciting, unexpected, and potentially life-changing.
Growing up as an avid PlayStation gamer, I have cherished every moment spent traversing the vast worlds of Final Fantasy VII, its remake, and now Rebirth. The thought that Xbox fans could soon embark on these adventures is nothing short of exhilarating. It’s like hearing the familiar melody of “One-Winged Angel” for the first time all over again – a symphony of nostalgia and anticipation.
Yoshinori Kitase’s statement about the need to reach as many players as possible has fueled my optimism, reminding me that even the most impossible dreams can become reality given enough time and perseverance. While we must remain patient for confirmation, I can’t help but feel a sense of hope in the air – a hope born from countless hours spent battling bosses, exploring worlds, and forming unforgettable friendships with iconic characters like Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart.
And as I ponder over this possibility, I find myself chuckling at the irony: after all these years of being the “other” console, it seems that the Final Fantasy VII Remake series might finally come to Xbox – making us the “one-winged angel” for once! Only time will tell if this dream becomes a reality, but in the meantime, I’ll keep my controller at the ready and my heart filled with hope.
On December 26, 2024, IGN Brazil conversed with two prominent developers from Square Enix about the sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The interviewees were Naoki Hamaguchi, who serves as the director for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Yoshinori Kitase, who directed the original PlayStation One version of Final Fantasy and is also a producer for the Final Fantasy franchise.
In this interview, Yoshinori Kitase notes that sales for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have been “adequate and secure,” marking a significant shift from Square Enix’s past financial statements, which indicated that both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI did not meet the company’s predicted targets. To put it simply, he implies that the sales are better than anticipated.
Although we’re content and proud to hit a specific sales mark, it’s undeniable that, given the advancements in gaming, it’s essential for us not to limit our presence on just one platform. Kitase then suggests, “I believe we should make the game accessible to as many players worldwide as we can.
As a dedicated gamer who grew up playing Final Fantasy VII, I am thrilled at the prospect of seeing this classic game return to consoles other than just PC. With my history of following Square Enix’s releases, I can confidently say that an Xbox port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (and potentially Final Fantasy VII Remake) is a strong possibility given their recent trend of releasing games on the Xbox platform. This news would undoubtedly bring back memories and provide a sense of nostalgia for me and many other fans who have been eagerly awaiting the release of this highly anticipated sequel.
Among them are the eagerly anticipated Xbox versions of Final Fantasy XIV and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, which has achieved tremendous global success in the Xbox Stores. Additionally, various games from the Mana series and the Dragon Quest HD-2D Remake have been launched on Xbox, just to give a few examples.
Furthermore, it appears that a few team members from Square Enix have been expressing more enthusiasm towards the Xbox console. For instance, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, has expressed a desire to bring Final Fantasy XVI to Xbox. Similarly, Naoki Hamaguchi, during an interview with GamesRadar, openly admitted his fondness for Xbox and stated that he aims to make Final Fantasy VII and the Remake series accessible to as many players as possible, quoting “to bring Final Fantasy VII and the Remake series to as many players out there as possible.”
Will the Final Fantasy VII Remake series finally come to Xbox?
It’s a long-cherished wish for Xbox enthusiasts to ultimately play the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. While there have been debates over alterations in the narrative of the original Final Fantasy VII, both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth have received acclaim from critics and fans alike, being hailed as top-tier games within the Final Fantasy series on PC. They boast impressive visuals, thrilling battles, eclectic soundtracks, and epic boss encounters.
Is it possible that we’ll see Xbox versions of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, or will they turn out to be unrealized dreams? Only time will tell. In the interim, the PC ports of Final Fantasy VII Remake and the PC release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (scheduled for January 23, 2025) will provide you with some company during the wait.
The remake of Final Fantasy 7, titled Rebirth, is now playable on the PlayStation 5. It’s planned for a release on Windows PC on January 23, 2025.
