Square Enix ‘Hard at Work’ on Kingdom Hearts 4, Even Though It Just Killed Another Game in the Series

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel a sense of longing as it’s been over six years since we last ventured into the magical world of Kingdom Hearts 3. Despite the passing time, it seems like we’re no closer to embarking on another adventure with Square Enix’s unique blend of Disney characters and anime-inspired storytelling – that is, if Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed in the works.

Unfortunately, if you were anticipating that the GPS-based mobile app, Missing-Link, would bridge the void within your heart, I must inform you of its termination: the Japanese publisher has decided to discontinue it.

This initiative forms part of the organization’s broader mission to enhance the quality and quantity of its productions by streamlining their output. After devoting more than three years to this project, the company has ultimately concluded that it’s time for a change.

Despite putting considerable effort into creating and refining our game with the aim of providing endless enjoyment for many players, we realized that maintaining a service that would meet the satisfaction of our players for an extended duration might prove challenging. As a result, we’ve made the tough decision to discontinue development.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about my beloved Kingdom Hearts series! Right now, we’re deep in the heart of development for Kingdom Hearts 4. We can’t wait for you all to join us on this new adventure, and we hope you’ll continue to stand by us as we unveil more details along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for future updates!

Regrettably, there’s no update yet on the release date for Kingdom Hearts 4. Given the current situation, it looks like we won’t be seeing it before 2027 at the earliest.
