Square Enix Vows to Deny Toxic Fans Its Wonderful Games, Services

Square Enix, publisher of Final Fantasy, has recently announced a strict anti-harassment policy, showing their determination to tackle increasing fan aggression. Noted by VGC, this policy arises as several Final Fantasy voice actors have felt compelled to address the harmful actions of a small minority, negatively impacting the community at large. The new policy from Square Enix clearly outlines their firm stance against such behavior.

If a person behaves inappropriately or harmfully towards one of our employees or partners beyond what’s considered acceptable in society, Square Enix retains the authority to stop offering support services or discontinue providing our products and services. In cases where the behavior is particularly severe or intentionally harmful, Square Enix reserves the right to safeguard its employees and partners by taking legal action or filing criminal charges after consulting with legal professionals and potentially involving law enforcement agencies.

  • Acts of violence, violent behaviour
  • Abusive language, intimidation, coercion, duress, excessive pursuit or reprimand
  • Defamation/slander, denial of personality, personal attack (including email, contact in contact form, comment or post on the internet), advance notice of wrongdoing, advance notice of obstruction of business
  • Persistent inquiries, repeated visits
  • Trespassing by visiting or staying in an office or related facility without permission
  • Unlawful restraint, including via telephone calls and online inquiries
  • Discriminatory speech and conduct regarding race, ethnicity, religion, family origin, occupation, etc.
    Infringement of privacy by taking pictures or making video recordings without consent
  • Sexual harassment, stalking, repeated stalking behaviour
  • Unreasonable changes or exchange of product or request for monetary compensation
  • Unreasonable response or request for an apology (including face-to-face response or request for an apology specifying the position of our employee or partners)
    Excessive requests for the provision of products and services exceeding socially accepted norms
  • Unreasonable and excessive demands for punishment of our employees

Briana White, known for voicing Aerith in Final Fantasy VII Remake and other long-running series, has felt compelled to address a problematic segment of fans who have repeatedly overstepped boundaries. Specifically, White criticizes “shippers” as an example of the absurdity that can exist within the community.
