Squid Game season 2 games – complete list of twisted trials

As a seasoned fan of survival games and someone who has watched every episode of Squid Game since its inception, I can confidently say that the return of this thrilling series was nothing short of exhilarating. The anticipation leading up to the release of Season 2 was palpable, especially with the closely guarded secret of the new games that would test our contestants’ wits, courage, and will to survive.

In the lead-up to its release, there was much anticipation surrounding which games the characters in Squid Game Season 2 would be forced to play next.

An initial trailer only revealed that Red Light, Green Light will be back, implying that the specifics of the other rounds remain unknown, with creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hinting at fresh obstacles to come.

With the arrival of Squid Game season 2 on Netflix, we’re ready to unveil the full roster of games showcased in the new episodes for those who wish to create their own (harmless) adaptations to play at home.

Once more, the games draw inspiration from well-known kid’s pastimes in South Korea, sharing some resemblance with playground games common in the Western hemisphere.

As a passionate film enthusiast, here’s my breakdown of what you can expect from the next rounds in Squid Game Season 2: Dive into the details of iconic games such as Red Light, Green Light, Six Legs, and Mingle!

Squid Game season 2 pre-games

Before returning to the bizarre location where the majority of the tasks occur, a series of games unfold in the real world of Seoul. These games are orchestrated by the sinister salesman, portrayed by Gong Yoo.

They are as follows:

Ddakji

You might recall the paper-flipping game called Ddakji from our first season. For those interested in learning more about it, we’ve created a dedicated guide on how to play Ddakji.

Bread or Lottery

An unsettling pastime engaged in by a salesman towards the homeless population in a nearby park: he presents them with a choice between a bread roll and a lottery ticket, typically opting for the latter. However, instead of honoring their choices, he cruelly ruins the food before their eyes.

Here’s what Squid Game’s creator had to say about Bread or Lottery.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Minus One

In a fresh take on the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors game, players are allowed to show two hand gestures simultaneously at the start. However, upon hearing the command “minus one,” each competitor must quickly remove one hand. The winner is determined by the remaining gesture.

Russian Roulette

In this well-known game, a bullet is placed somewhere unpredictably within the gun’s magazine, with only one round loaded. Players point the firearm at themselves and take turns pulling the trigger, potentially causing harm if the bullet is chambered.

Squid Game season 2 – Game 1: Red Light, Green Light

The first official game played in Squid Game season 2 is a familiar one: Red Light, Green Light.

With a concealed automated targeting system within a robot resembling a schoolgirl, the participants need to advance cautiously toward the end point only when the green light is on and the child-like robot is singing.

Yet, when a red light signals, it’s crucial that they stay absolutely motionless, for any movement could lead to them being hit by snipers strategically placed on either side of the play area.

Squid Game season 2 – Game 2: Six Legs

In the second contest of Squid Game season 2, titled “Six Legs,” five competitors are bound together and must navigate through a small track, demarcated by five checkpoints.

At each station, there’s a unique challenge that participants need to conquer sequentially to move forward. They’ve got just five minutes to finish the entire course, successfully passing through all five stations, or they’ll be disqualified.

The games played are:

  • Ddakji – see previous section.
  • Flying Stone – a simple throwing game in which the player must knock over one stone using another.
  • Gonggi – an intricate, fast-paced game played with small round pieces. We have a separate page on how to play Gonggi.
  • Spinning Top – a player must wind a small rope around a spinning top and then fling it so that it lands upright.
  • Jegi – similar to ‘hacky sack’, players must repeatedly catch the jegi on their foot without letting it hit the ground.

Squid Game season 2 –Game 3: Mingle

The third contest featured in Squid Game season 2 is called “Mingle,” and it bears a resemblance to the classic game of musical chairs.

Rather than staying put once the music ceases, participants should move to any of the surrounding rooms in the hall. But, their safety depends on the number of individuals in their chosen room, which alters every round.

To further complicate matters, every game commences with the participants seated on a revolving merry-go-round. Consequently, they might feel slightly off-balance or confused as they strive to navigate towards safety when the round begins.

Squid Game season 2 – Game 4: “Special Game”

In the second season of Squid Game, the fourth contest they participate in is named “the unique challenge.” During this game, the organizers deliberately create discord among the players, leading them to confront and even kill one another when the lights are turned off.

It seems that Gi-hun, having won previously, understands the potential for conflict among players. Yet, he may not realize that the organizers of the Squid Game are actually promoting such violent interactions.
