As a movie buff who has been through the highs and lows of binge-watching series since the dawn of Netflix, I can confidently say that the news about Squid Game season 3 almost being done is music to my ears (or rather, eyes). The anticipation for this gripping Korean drama has been palpable, and the confirmation that it’s nearly here, just in time for Christmas, is nothing short of a miracle.
According to the show’s creator, Squid Game season 3 has essentially been completed before season 2 premieres this coming Christmas.
Audience members are getting ready to jump back into the fierce tournament on Boxing Day, as the new instalment of the series premieres on Netflix, where the main character, Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, is out for retribution against those who have wronged him.
Previously, Netflix hinted at the release of Season 3 in 2025, but more recent remarks by the series’ creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, hint that we might get to watch it earlier than anticipated.
The creator behind the show shared with The Hollywood Reporter that they are almost finished with the editing process for season 3. This suggests a possible release date sometime in spring or summer of 2025, but at this point, it’s just an educated guess.
In simpler terms, the creator has announced that the third season of “Squid Game” will be its finale, explaining his choice to wrap up the series after three seasons instead of continuing it for multiple additional seasons.
He shared that as he pondered over the concept for the season three finale, it seemed like a fitting conclusion just sort of organically emerged in his thoughts.
In my opinion, I felt that the tale effectively conveyed all I intended to express using the narrative of Squid Game, particularly focusing on Gi-hun’s character. I believed there was no need for additional narratives at this point.
In a subsequent discussion, Hwang characterized the upcoming second season of the series as “insanely chaotic.” The latest preview hints at the reappearance of the beloved game Red Light, Green Light, along with continued turmoil within the confines of the Squid Game facility.
In simple terms, the show’s maker depicted the main character Gi-hun as being significantly affected and fractured due to the incidents in the initial season. This viewpoint is shared by actor Lee Jung-jae (from The Acolyte), suggesting that viewers can anticipate a transformation in Gi-hun, brought about by his experiences with trauma.
Given all that Gi-hun has lived through, seen so much death, he can’t go back to how things were before, no matter how much he strives to,” he explained.
In Season 1, Gi-hun’s portrayal is significantly distinct from how he appears in Season 2.
