As a seasoned Stalker, I can confidently say that the arsenal in STALKER 2 is nothing short of extraordinary. Each weapon, crafted with precision and purpose, offers a unique flavor to the apocalyptic wasteland of the Zone.
Don’t listen to the haters: the Zone in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a fun place!
In numerous exciting scenarios, you can resolve business conflicts, purge mutated regions, protect the Zone from treacherous groups, and much more, by taking decisive action.
The only way to make it in the Zone is with a bolt in one hand and a good gun in the other.
This list compiles the best weapons, ranked, so you know what to bring to each kind of ‘problem’ you will be solving.
Regardless of your choice, remember to collect extra ammunition from fallen enemies as you go; it’s always wise to have additional ammunition for your reliable rifle in case it unexpectedly jams.
10 Grom S-14
OTs-14 (Russia)
The Grom S-14 stands out as an exceptional close-quarters combat rifle for special forces, utilizing 9x39mm ammunition and typically equipped with a 20-round magazine.
This versatile tool is ideal for breaking into fortified structures, and it becomes even more effective when you upgrade to larger ammunition capacities.
Despite the limitation of the subsonic round at extended distances, the Grom equips itself effectively with a built-in 40mm grenade launcher beneath its barrel.
Should you find one of these items at an early stage, it could prove beneficial to save it for later, once you’ve managed to gather discount vouchers. Both the 9x39mm ammunition and VOG-25 grenades are not frequently found or inexpensive in the initial regions.
9 Integral-A
KRISS Vector (United States)
While some criticize this submachine gun for setting a toxic trend in future firearm aesthetics, can we really hold it accountable for its appealing design?
In the game STALKER 2, The Integral-A gun is unique because it fires 9x19mm rounds, which are abundant in the Zone. Moreover, it boasts an extraordinarily high rate of fire, making it one of the most rapidly firing weapons within the game.
Should you encounter one of these, you can effortlessly eliminate your target by keeping the trigger pressed and allowing the weapon to take care of the task for you.
The only drawback of the Integral-A is that its standard magazine capacity is extremely undersized for the gun’s rate of fire, but you can mod that away relatively fast.
8 RPM-74
PKM (Soviet Union)
When you require the intense firing rate of a submachine gun coupled with the trajectory of a rifle, it’s time to deploy the RPM-74.
In this game, there’s a unique weapon – a machine gun that takes 7.62x39mm bullets and consumes them at a rate remarkably similar to how one might go through candy.
Initially tough to manage, the RPM-74 becomes the top combat weapon in STALKER 2 upon exchanging a few tokens with a technician for modifications.
The impressive power of the RPM comes from its large 150-round magazine, enabling continuous shooting without frequent reloading. And the excitement multiplies when you come across or purchase a 250-round extended magazine.
Instead of focusing on the budget-friendly aspects of the canted grip, muzzle break, and optics rail, consider their value in relation to the advantages they provide. If you find yourself with some extra funds, I’d recommend investing it in reducing the weapon’s weight, as this is the primary disadvantage of the RPM.
7 Saiga D-12
Saiga-12 (Russia)
When Kalashnikov redesigned their assault rifle mechanism for a shotgun, they were considering both safety and hunting applications. Essentially, reducing mutant creatures to pieces could be seen as an equivalent scenario.
As a fan, I’d say: With its rapid-fire capability, the Saiga D-12 truly packs a punch! However, since its 8-round magazine empties quickly, you’ll find yourself reloading often. But remember, once something has been hit with that much buckshot, it’s unlikely to rise again for another meal.
The Saiga D-12 blends the superior traits of other guns found within the Zone, such as the SPSA-14’s semi-automatic firing mechanism and the enhanced magazine feeding system of the modified M860.
Don’t write this off as a mutant-only weapon though. Despite the caliber’s limitations against stalkers, the Saiga D-12 lets you overwhelm enemies through sheer volume of fire at close quarters.
6 Mark I EMR
M39 EMR (United States)
Does it seem recognizable? If it once was a M14, then let me clarify that this isn’t your grandfather’s old Vietnam-war era weapon; it has been significantly upgraded.
The EMR is a conversion of the M14 into a modern marksman rifle, with an all-new chassis.
In the specified area, they opt for a 10-round box magazine rather than the standard 20-round one. Despite being classified as a marksman rifle, it carries traces of its battle rifle heritage.
In the game STALKER 2, the .308 cartridge employed by the EMR is exceptionally powerful, so potent that even its standard ammo can knock out enemies equipped with exoskeletons upon headshots. Mutants find no respite against this formidable bullet.
Interestingly, the high-performance .308 round seems to be a hindrance to its own popularity within Electronic Medical Records (EMR): this round is seldom encountered in the wild, and it is among the costlier options when purchased from suppliers.
Pondering over instances where you eliminate a gang of robbers using the EMR, it occasionally crosses your mind whether providing some of the plunder might have been less costly in the long run.
5 AS Lavina
AS VAL (Soviet Union)
Following the conclusion of the Cold War, two firearms emerged that reflect the unique aesthetics of Eastern European special forces: the AS Lavina and the VS Vintar.
These are lightweight special rifles with integral suppressors, firing the subsonic 9x39mm round.
In the Zone, the Vintar isn’t ideal for sniping because it has a significant bullet trajectory and only holds 10 rounds, whereas the Lavina excels in close-quarters combat, ranking among the best weapons within the Cordon’s vicinity.
The Lavina sports a 20-shot magazine that can be extended to 30 shots. It’s capable of firing rapidly in automatic setting, but the impact of each bullet in semi-automatic mode is substantial enough to merit its use.
In comparison to other assault rifles, the Lavina boasts one of the gentlest recoils within the game, which makes it an ideal choice for those who enjoy rapid, accurate headshots.
4 SVU-MK S-3
OTs-03 (Russia)
How about the power of a marksman rifle with the size and weight of a compact gun?
The SVU-MK S-3 is a bullpup conversion of the Dragunov marksman rifle. Originally meant for Russian internal forces, it has been exported to neighboring countries in limited numbers.
Initially, this firearm is equipped with a 10-round magazine for the 7.62x54mmR cartridge and features a PSO-1 sight. Similar to the EMR, the SVU excels in close quarters combat, yet offers a more compact design, and uses ammunition that won’t break the bank like having to remortgage your home in Rostok for it.
One potential limitation of the SVU weapon is that its range cannot be adjusted, making it challenging to use effectively in confined spaces. However, some experts can equip it with a tactical laser module which helps alleviate this issue.
3 Dnipro
Mayluk (Ukraine)
In STALKER 2, the Dnipro is an advanced variant of the AK-74, locally developed as a bullpup assault rifle. It stands out as the epitome of 5.45x39mm firearms within the game.
This remarkable piece works well with various optics in the game, offers a silencer as an option, and boasts exceptional penetrating power.
Opting for the economical and widespread 5.45x39mm PS bullet launched from a Dnipro weapon provides a far superior value compared to employing an AKM-74S, particularly when adversaries equip themselves with exoskeletons. In simpler terms, using the cheaper and more common ammunition in a Dnipro gun offers better performance than the AKM-74S, especially when enemies arrive armed with exoskeletons.
As a dedicated fan, I’d express it like this: “With an ACOG scope mounted on its rail, the Dnipro becomes my versatile go-to for both close quarters battles (CQB) and reaching out to hit targets at distance. The added benefit of armor-piercing rounds makes it even more appealing when I’m aiming for targets beyond regular ballistics.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible for the Dnipro to accommodate a GP-25 grenade launcher; however, you can make use of its detachable magazine instead.
2 Kharod
IWI Carmel (Israel)
In the game zone, the Kharod stands as the peak of Western-style assault rifles, and its variant in STALKER 2 is equipped with a short barrel straight out of the box, making it particularly effective in tight spaces.
In addition to its powerful projectiles and sleek construction, the Kharod is particularly noteworthy for being the most adaptable firearm within the game.
You have access to silencers, all rifle optics, a suppressor, an under-barrel grenade launcher, and my favorite, the Holemaker-L under-barrel shotgun.
Contrary to the other Israeli rifle in STALKER 2, the locally-made Fora-221, the Kharod uses 5.56x45mm ammunition instead of the more common 5.45x39mm. Luckily, you can usually find this ammo at most traders for a standard price.
1 Gauss Gun
Zone Exclusive
Regardless of whether you’re a beginner or an experienced user, the sound of a Gauss Gun loading up makes everyone’s hair stand on end. This weapon employs electromagnets to launch projectiles at astonishing velocities, leaving your mind bewildered.
Despite being bulky, firing at a leisurely pace, and scarce ammo supply, it’s immaterial because one shot has the power to pierce through any protective gear found in the game.
In the eerie outskirts of Pripyat, the use of a Gauss Gun is confined, as the risks involved are far greater than typical encounters with common robbers near the dump site.
When attacking a well-defended location or finding yourself trapped but with the enemy moving through a narrow passage, there’s no more effective tool for sending a strong message than this one.
