As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of gaming, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is nothing short of a game enthusiast’s dream come true. With its intricate ballistics system, challenging difficulty options, and expansive open-world environment, this title promises to deliver an experience that will keep me engaged for weeks, if not months.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is undeniably one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, and after a long development cycle marked by numerous challenges, it’s finally making its way to us. The game developer, GSC Game World, has had to navigate obstacles such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but despite these difficulties, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has continued to impress us with its promising features. As we eagerly await its release, let’s delve into a few crucial details about the game, particularly for those who plan on playing it on their PCs.
LOW AND MEDIUM PC REQUIREMENTS
Every moment of footage we’ve viewed for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has undeniably demonstrated that this horror shooter will be a graphical powerhouse, so it comes as no shock that its PC version has some rather demanding system requirements, even when set to the lowest settings. To begin with, an SSD and at least 160 GB of available storage space are essential prerequisites across the board.
To play the game smoothly at two different graphic settings (with the lower setting offering 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second, and the higher setting providing 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second), you’ll need specific hardware:
HIGH AND EPIC PC REQUIREMENTS
For PC gamers, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl offers an optimal gaming experience with top-tier graphics settings. The recommended setting, ‘High,’ will render the game at 1440p resolution and 60 frames per second (FPS). To enjoy this level of performance, you’ll need a processor such as the i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5800X, along with a graphics card like the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 4070, or Radeon RX 6800 XT. If you crave even more visual splendor, the ‘Epic’ setting will enable 4K resolution and 60+ FPS, but you’ll need a beefier setup: an i7-13700KF or Ryzen 7 7700X processor and either a GeForce RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card. In both cases, a whopping 32 GB of RAM is necessary.
XBOX STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
The upcoming game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is undeniably a large-scale production, not only boasting an expansive open world spanning over 60 square kilometers, but also showcasing impressive graphical and technical aspirations. This is evident in its substantial PC storage requirement of 160 GB (and other factors), and it’s no surprise that the game demands similar storage on consoles. Pre-loading for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has recently become available, revealing that the game requires 147 GB of free space on Xbox Series X/S, so be sure to check your storage before downloading.
DLSS 3 SUPPORT
As a fervent enthusiast, I can’t help but dwell a bit longer on the technical aspects of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, given the wealth of intriguing details that surround it. For one, Nvidia has made it clear that the PC version will debut with DLSS 3 and Frame Generation, as well as Super Resolution support. This means that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is expected to deliver a significant boost in performance for GeForce RTX 40 Series cards, approximating a 2.4x improvement on average! To give you an idea, this translates to frame rates exceeding 120 FPS on the RTX 4090. Moreover, PC gamers will also have the advantage of utilizing Nvidia Reflex, potentially reducing latency by up to 45 percent.
MOD SUPPORT ON XBOX
The STALKER series has consistently had a vibrant and engaged modding community, and despite the game’s long break, developer GSC Game World intends to maintain this tradition for the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. In an interview with Radio Times Gaming on YouTube, GSC Game World’s technical producer Yevhenii Kulyk revealed that not only will S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 support modding, but it will also offer this feature for Xbox Series X/S users as well. Kulyk added that they are working on a comprehensive toolkit to empower mod creators, enabling them to make everything from small adjustments to large-scale overhauls. He stated, “We are essentially developing and preparing a large toolkit that will equip mod makers with all the tools required to create mods ranging from the smallest to the most extensive.
XBOX SERIES S PERFORMANCE
It’s been confirmed by GSC Game World multiple times that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will offer both 30 FPS and 60 FPS options on Xbox Series X. However, the specific details for Microsoft’s less powerful current-generation console, the Xbox Series S, are not as clear. In an interview with Wccftech in September, GSC Game World’s lead producer Slava Lukyanenka mentioned that at that time, the game was running at around 35 FPS on the Xbox Series S. He also noted that the studio was still working on improvements and optimizations. This suggests that we might expect reliable and consistent frame rates on the less powerful console.
DIFFICULTY OPTIONS
It goes without saying that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is going to be a challenging game – refusing to hold players’ hands even in the slightest is what the series has always been known for, after all – but the upcoming shooter will still allow players to customize their experience’s difficulty. The game will feature three difficulty options, though you can expect it to be pretty hard even on Normal difficulty, as the developer confirmed in an interview with Windows Central. Then there’s a higher difficulty, which “doesn’t just make the gameplay more difficult, but also strips back HUD and UI elements”, as the studio puts it.
MAIN STORY LENGTH
Without a doubt, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 promises to be an extensive gaming experience, not only regarding the game’s dimensions and ambition, but also in terms of playtime. In a conversation with Gamersky, GSC Game World shared that the primary narrative of this shooter is expected to last approximately 40 hours. Previously, the developers have hinted that players could invest more than a hundred hours into the game, contingent upon their level of interaction with all the additional content, which encompasses various endings and replayability aspects.
WEAPON BALLISTICS
Previously, we’ve delved deeply into the gameplay aspects of STALKER 2 in our previous articles. In this piece, however, we’re focusing on other aspects. However, there’s one key feature that deserves mention which we haven’t touched upon before – the realistic ballistic simulations. This means each bullet you fire will be affected by factors like distance, wind speed, type of weapon, and whether your target is wearing armor. As with most elements in this game, combat situations require careful consideration.
POST-LAUNCH PLANS
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is expected to provide plenty of gameplay following its launch due to its vast scope, but the developers at GSC Game World have plans for even more content beyond the initial release. This will include two post-launch expansions which will be part of a season pass, as confirmed by the studio during their recent gameplay presentation in August. As of now, specifics regarding the nature of these expansions, their size, or their launch dates have not been disclosed.
