Stalker 2 NPCs hide cut features that players have been begging for

As a die-hard fan of the Stalker series who has been following its development since the original release, I must admit that the launch of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, the game’s immersive world and intense survival mechanics have kept me captivated, despite the broken A-Life system and numerous bugs.

Game World’s Stalker 2 by GSC was launched before being fully completed, yet we found ourselves deeply engaged during our playtime with this survival game. The release of the game unfortunately led to a malfunctioning A-Life system, but it also resulted in certain features being omitted from the final product.

On closer examination by keen gamers, it has been observed that certain highly anticipated features from earlier versions of Stalker are not found in the new game’s NPCs, although they were present in the original games.

Stalker 2 NPCs hide scrapped features

Previously, the series’ games featured a versatile Player Data Assistant (PDA) as a key asset for players. This device not only managed quests and locations but also monitored player stats, plus it had an “Archive” section to store past conversations.

In its existing form, Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl’s Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) doesn’t include stats tracking or a dialogue archive. Interestingly, these features were present in an earlier edition of the game, and Non-Player Characters (NPCs) can utilize them.

One player observed that NPCs carrying PDAs displayed a screen with active content. On this screen, both the Statistics and Archive sections were visible, yet entirely grayed out. This implies that during the creation process of GSC Game World, they initially intended to incorporate these features into the PDA system, but later decided against it during development.

Indeed, it has been noted that these features were showcased in promotional content for the game not long ago – specifically, around August. During the Gamescom 2024 demo, players were provided with two PDA options for their usage.

Working diligently to address the game’s multitude of issues, enhance A-Life functionality, and continually update the game, GSC Game World aims for a potential reintroduction of these features in the future. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether these features will be included in the final version of the game.
