As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the hauntingly beautiful world of the original STALKER games, I can wholeheartedly say that the release of STALKER 2 has been nothing short of a dream come true. The game’s uncanny resemblance to the real-life Pripyat, as evidenced by the photos shared by vbohush, is nothing short of breathtaking.
It’s been over two weeks since the launch of STALKER. Over this period, fans have been eager to contrast the locations from the original Shadow of Chornobyl with those featured in the sequel. The community has also noticed several references to other cultural works such as Harry Potter and The Witcher. However, recently a player posted some pictures from his visit to Pripyat. Remarkably, the places and items he captured in his photos closely resemble those found in the game.
STALKER is like an open-air museum
Multiple images captured by user vbohush have been posted online. These photos were displayed as a list with spots identifiable within the game. If your gaming experience allowed you to appreciate the realism of the locations depicted in “Heart of Chornobyl“, what would be your response?
In these images, you’ll find numerous distinctive spots of Pripyat clearly depicted. Places like the Devil’s Mill, deserted vehicles, and public structures carry a somber echo of its past tragedies, which the game creators at GSC Games appear to have deeply ingrained in their memory and comprehension. Indeed, this is the heart of the entire STALKER saga.
Old photos
Additionally, it’s important to point out that approximately five years have elapsed since the aforementioned images were captured, as stated by the writer.
Back in September 2019, I stepped foot into the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. Nowadays, I’m engrossed in playing “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2”. Remarkably, several places within the game resonate with me as they are strikingly similar to locations I visited five years ago. Consequently, I spent quite a few hours capturing screenshots of these identical spots.
The similarity between the game’s photos and screenshots is not just about what they show, but also how they are presented. In fact, most of the items on the list, except for the sunken house, appear remarkably alike. This strongly suggests that the developers have taken a meticulous, realistic approach to portraying the Zone in the game.
Despite when the photos were captured, it’s clear they left a lasting positive impact on the gaming community. Many players admire the photorealistic settings, evidenced by the abundance of favorable reviews on Steam. Currently, approximately 84% of Stalker 2 players seem to share this sentiment on Valve’s platform. With an increasing number of positive opinions in the past week, it appears that the game from the Ukrainian studio is moving closer to receiving “overwhelmingly positive” reviews.
