The commencement of production has been announced for Murder Before Evensong, the fresh crime drama inspired by the popular book series penned by Reverend Richard Coles.
Production for the show, hailing from Channel 5 and AMC Networks’ Acorn TV, has officially commenced, and they’ve shared some thrilling casting news as well.
In the latest update, it’s been disclosed that Matthew Lewis, who plays the lead character, will be joined by a talented cast including Amanda Redman from New Tricks as Audrey, Amit Shah from Happy Valley as DS Neil Vanloo, and Adam James from The Day of the Jackal as Bernard De Floures.
In addition to the previously announced actors, we have Meghan Treadway (from “One Day”) portraying Honor De Floures, Alexander Delamain making his debut as Alex De Flouire, Marion Bailey (“The Crown” fan favorite) as Kath, Amanda Hadingue (“Kaos” actress) as Dora, Tamzin Outhwaite (“The Wives” star) as Stella Harper, Francis Magee (from “Kin”) as Edgy, and Nina Toussaint-White (“Showtrial” talent) as Jane Thwaite.
So, plenty of familiar faces from the world of British TV making an appearance in the new series!
The filming for the program is presently being conducted in the West Midlands, and although a specific air date hasn’t been disclosed, it’s expected that “Murder Before Evensong” will make its debut on television screens somewhere within this year.
2022 saw the publication of Murder Before Evensong, which subsequently climbed the charts as a top seller. Additionally, Coles was appointed as an executive producer for the forthcoming drama.
The upcoming series, crafted by Nick Hicks-Beach (of Midsomer Murders fame) and helmed by director David Moore (from Fool Me Once), follows an initially peaceful township that experiences a startling homicide.
In my world, I reside alongside my spirited, bold, occasionally irritating mother, Audrey, at the charming Champton rectory, where our days are filled with laughter and the company of our lovable dachshund duo, Cosmo and Hilda.
When Daniel proposes building a bathroom within the church, the community experiences an unforeseen division: previously hidden disputes threaten to disrupt the tranquil facade of the village.
Subsequently, a corpse was discovered near the church’s rear, having sustained a fatal neck wound from a pair of pruning shears.
Amidst the arrival of the authorities and the rising number of victims, it falls upon Daniel to strive for unity within his shattered society… and track down the murderer.
Coles has written and published further works, namely “A Death in the Parish” and “Murder at the Monastery,” both of which revolve around the character of Canon Daniel Clement.
So, there very well could be scope for more murder-mystery TV series if the appetite is there.
