As a seasoned gamer and Star Trek enthusiast who has journeyed through the galaxies since the original series debuted, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and camaraderie upon hearing that IDW Publishing will continue its partnership with Paramount Global to create more Star Trek comic books. Over the years, I have immersed myself in various iterations of this iconic franchise, from The Original Series to Lower Decks, and each story has added a unique layer to my love for this universe.
In the upcoming months, Star Trek will venture into fresh journeys with IDW Publishing. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con event, IDW Publishing revealed an extension of their partnership with Paramount Global to carry on producing Star Trek comic books. Since 2007, IDW Publishing has been responsible for Star Trek comics and will mark a significant milestone by releasing issue #500 across several ongoing and limited series in September. Over the past 17 years, IDW Publishing has developed comic book stories based on The Original Series, The Next Generation, Voyager, Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, and the rebooted Star Trek film series (characters from Enterprise have appeared in anthology issues, making Prodigy the only Star Trek series yet to be featured in IDW’s comics).
“Davidi Jonas, CEO of IDW Media Holdings, stated in a press release that Star Trek isn’t merely a famous series, but rather a world that embodies and encourages diversity and imagination. We are honored to work and be associated with the Star Trek community, and we share with Paramount their enthusiasm for storytelling, expanding the universe, and pleasing fans. With a sense of humility and excitement, we renew our dedication and look forward to many more years of venturing into the unknown alongside our partners and enthusiasts.”
IDW Publishing Will Continue to Publish Star Trek Comics
As a die-hard Star Trek enthusiast, I’ve always been captivated by its optimistic portrayal of the future. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work alongside our talented editorial and creative teams as they craft fresh narratives within this galaxy that have struck a chord with both longtime fans and newcomers alike. From Eisner nominations to overwhelming fan acclaim, it’s clear that the Star Trek community has wholeheartedly embraced our stories. I can hardly contain my excitement about where we’re headed next!
As a passionate Star Trek gamer, I’m thrilled to share that issue #500 is a monumental milestone! IDW has revealed that this issue will serve as a prelude to the upcoming grand crossover event in the revamped line of interconnected Star Trek comics they launched in 2022. This series has already managed to grab the attention of the prestigious Eisner Awards, an achievement for the Star Trek franchise that began with Star Trek #400 and its story paving the way for the first comic book crossover event, Star Trek: Day of Blood. Moreover, issue #500 promises a short story co-written by none other than Patton Oswalt!
IDW Publishing is set to unveil the interactive graphic novel titled “Star Trek: Lower Decks – Craft Your Journey” in October. Meanwhile, the storylines of both “Star Trek” and “Star Trek: Defiant” are expected to carry on for some time, with the limited series spinoff “Sons of Star Trek” having recently wrapped up.
Star Trek #500 goes on sale September 4th. Star Trek: Lower Decks – Warp Your Own Way hits stores on October 22nd.
