As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of the final frontier, I cannot contain my excitement for the upcoming event: Star Trek: Lore War. The prospect of witnessing the remaking of the universe by none other than the rogue android, Lore, is nothing short of mind-boggling!
2025 will bring a significant shift to the Star Trek universe as depicted in the upcoming series, “Star Trek: Lore War.” As hinted at in this week’s landmark issue #500 of Star Trek, Lore – Commander Data’s malevolent sibling – has harnessed the power of a Bajoran Orb to rewrite existence, overhauling the original Star Trek universe to suit his preferences. With Lore now assuming god-like authority, one can only wonder what lies ahead. Star Trek enthusiasts will uncover the answers in “Lore War,” the conclusion of a two-year narrative arc unfolding across IDW’s Star Trek comics, which commenced with the prelude story in issue #400 and continued through Star Trek, “Star Trek: Defiant,” and other titles
Title #1 commences Star Trek’s second comic book crossover event (the first being IDW’s Day of Blood), penned by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Christopher Cantwell, and Davide Tinto. The narrative unfolds in the issues of Star Trek, Star Trek: Defiant, and additional one-shot specials to follow
“This is it. The moment we’ve been building to since the Theseus left spacedock and the Defiant was stolen,” Lanzing says in a press release. “The ultimate Star Trek comics crossover event – as the heroes and villains of the galaxy must band together to defend its very existence.”
From the start, our narrative in both titles has been centered around Star Trek’s idea of divine beings and the rejection of those beings – the balance between order and chaos that is prevalent across the four quadrants of the galaxy. Cantwell stated, “Who wields the power and who dares to challenge it? Lore War represents the culmination of this common thread, a production that took us two years to create.”
In a chilling declaration, Kelly said, “The gods have perished, leaving behind only a single, deranged artificial intelligence as the ruler of our cosmos. With unbridled power comes unchecked corruption… yet, does it also bring ultimate control?” This groundbreaking comic art by Davide Tinto, who’s new to the Star Trek realm, promises an extraordinary and universe-ending event that will leave no stone unturned in the vast world of Star Trek comics
Heather Antos states, “Everything’s been moving towards this point. In truth, the journey started two years ago with the prelude in Star Trek #400, leading us to the ‘Lore War’. When Collin, Jackson, and Christopher began this adventure, we pondered whether a man could be both human and divine. Now, Lore is responding to that question.”
Star Trek: Lore War #1 releases on March 26th. Star Trek #500 is on sale now.
