Actor Naveen Andrews, formerly known for his role in “Lost”, has been chosen to play the iconic villain Khan in an upcoming spoken-word series entitled “Star Trek: Khan“. Recording of the voiceovers for this production is now complete. The storyline of “Star Trek: Khan” delves into the events that transpired when Captain Kirk left Khan and his followers abandoned on the barren planet Ceti Alpha V, leading to their confrontation in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan“. Alongside Andrews, Wrenn Schmidt, recognized from “For All Mankind“, will portray Marla McGivers in this series. As part of the ongoing growth of the Star Trek Universe, this audio series joins other forthcoming projects such as “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” and “Star Trek: Section 31“, both available on Paramount+.
Khan goes like this: “Khan Noonien Singh is often seen as a villain due to his origin from a botched genetic engineering project and his vendetta against Admiral James T. Kirk that resulted in immense suffering. However, the true account of Khan’s transformation from a benevolent ruler and extraordinary visionary on the brink of a new world, to the figure we now recognize as a monster, has been hidden for far too long beneath the sands of Ceti Alpha V. The untold tale of Khan’s life will be revealed in the upcoming series, Star Trek: Khan.
Naveen Andrews will delve into the intricate mind of Khan and uncover his layers of anger, drive, and suffering. Wrenn Schmidt portrays Lt. Marla McGivers, a previous Starfleet historian who joined Khan in exile on Ceti Alpha V. Further cast details will be shared at a future time.
In sad news, the Star Trek community is mourning the passing of Roberto Orci, a long-term producer and writer, who succumbed to kidney disease at the age of 51 this week. According to a statement from his brother, J.R. Orci, “Roberto was an imaginative storyteller with a heart so vast and a soul so pure.” Beyond his creative prowess, Roberto was known for his kindness; he would pause his life to aid a stranger and offer shelter to the least adopted pets at animal shelters.
The audio series Star Trek: Khan is derived from a story previously written and directed for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, by Nicholas Meyer. Kirsten Beyer and David Mack are the writers for this production. CBS’ Eye Podcast Productions Inc., CBS Studio’s podcasting arm, Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment, Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Kirsten Beyer, Molly Barton, Fred Greenhalgh, Trevor Roth, and Rod Roddenberry serve as the executive producers.
