As a dedicated fan who has followed the Star Trek universe since the days of Captain Kirk and Spock, I must say that the cast of Star Trek: Lower Decks has truly outdone themselves with this final season. The Cerritos crew’s antics and adventures have not only been a delightful addition to the franchise but also managed to expand the Orion culture in ways I never thought possible!
The actors from the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks”, a spin-off of the renowned Star Trek franchise set in the 24th century that focuses on the crew of the less prominent starship Cerritos, are discussing their preferred moments and guest appearances as the series prepares for its conclusion with Season 5. Despite the upcoming end, fans still have some time before they must bid farewell to this Paramount+ original. The cast and showrunner have expressed which episodes they’re most excited about in the final season, while reminiscing on their favorite episodes from previous seasons.
At San Diego Comic-Con, we chatted with Mike McMahan, the creator/showrunner of ComicBook’s Lower Decks, along with actors Jerry O’Connell, Tawny Newsome, and No?l Wells. We asked them to reminisce about the animated comedy series. When prompted about which upcoming episode they’re excited for the audience to watch, Jerry O’Connell mentioned that he thinks it might be the finale, as he found it quite emotional. When inquired about his character Jack Ransom’s current activities, he playfully hinted, “You’ll have to tune in to find out,” with Newsome and McMahan also expressing positive sentiments regarding Jack Ransom.
“Newsome expressed his deep affection for the Jennifer episode and the roles D’Vana Tendi plays this season. He shared that he finds it heartwarming how a seemingly trivial 22-minute show has significantly contributed to Orion canon. As an enthusiastic fan, he believes no other series has enriched Orion culture as much as this one does. It’s astonishing to see how we’ve broadened the Orion lore with it.”
Wells remarked, “The opening episode lays the groundwork for the season exceptionally well. After that, it’s sure to gain momentum rapidly.”
Star Trek: Lower Decks showrunner teases final season cameos
In a recent disclosure, showrunner Mike McMahan hinted at some extraordinary guest appearances in the last season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, which he admitted were not initially thought to be feasible.
In addition to some surprising appearances from veteran actors, he noted, “The cameos in this season are truly mind-blowing!” Scattered throughout the series, these appearances were a wish come true for the production team, as they knew it would be their last. The rush to secure these guest stars was intense, and the result is that you’ll recognize some familiar faces among the cast this season.
