Star Trek: Lower Decks Ongoing Comics Series Announced

As a seasoned Star Trek fan with over three decades of voyages under my belt, I can confidently say that the announcement of the ongoing Star Treck: Lower Decks comic book series has me beaming with excitement! The U.S.S. Cerritos crew has already made quite an impression on me in their animated adventures, and I’m eager to see how they fare in the comic book medium.

As a lifelong Star Trek fan and comic book enthusiast, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that Star Trek: Lower Decks is not only returning for its fifth and final season, but also continuing in comic book form! Having grown up watching the original series and its subsequent spin-offs, I have a deep appreciation for the franchise’s humor, character development, and exploration of complex themes.

In a press statement, North expressed that “Lower Decks” is their preferred Star Trek series, having watched every available episode except for one they won’t disclose. This leads to the intriguing query: will the comic series contradict anything from that unseen episode? Fortunately, the creators of “Lower Decks”, both at IDW and Paramount, have proven to be incredibly talented – thoughtful, witty, and visionary. We’re working on a humorous, heartfelt book filled with grand sci-fi concepts, significant character growth, all the signature Trek elements, and plenty of jokes. If you’re a fan of “Lower Decks”, you’ll enjoy this comic!

Star Trek: Lower Decks Returns as a Comic

In “Star Trek: Lower Decks”, episodes will have standalone stories penned by different artists. The premiere issue is illustrated by Derek Charm, who teams up once again with the creators of the Eisner Award-nominated comic book, “Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day“.

“I have the pleasure of collaborating with several artists I admire greatly for this project, beginning with Derek Charm, whom we previously worked with on the Eisner Award-winning ‘Unbeatable Squirrel Girl’ and the Eisner Award-nominated ‘Shaxs’ Best Day.’ He truly stands out as: exceptional.”

Heather Antos from IDW Group announces, “When you thought it couldn’t get any better… here we are again with the inaugural continuous series of Lower Decks. Just as fans like yourselves crave more Lower Decks, we’re delivering it to you in abundance this time around!”

Antos goes on to say, “Ryan North is proving he’s an incredibly dedicated Star Trek fan with these stories. Add to that the hilarious artists like Derek Charm, Jack Lawrence, and others who take turns illustrating various episodes, and this series is such a delightful adventure that even the crew of the Lower Decks won’t want to miss it!”

The first issue of Star Trek: Lower Decks – Charting Your Own Course will be available for purchase on November 13th.
