Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Starts Production With First Cast Photos

As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who has been following this franchise since I was a mere cadet myself, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I witness the commencement of production for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The images from the set, featuring the principal cast and crew gathered around, evoke memories of my own days at the Academy, albeit in a more virtual reality setting.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the Star Trek universe, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve commenced the journey at the Starfleet Academy! Production for this new series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, has officially taken off, as evidenced by fresh snaps from the set. The images show our main crew standing outside “The Star Trek Stage,” where Paramount produces all its Star Trek content. The second photograph captures our team and the brilliant minds behind the Star Trek Universe, including Alex Kurtzman, huddled around for what appears to be a script reading session.

A caption on the photos reads: “School is in session, cadets! Today marks the official start of production as the #StarTrek Stage welcomes #StarfleetAcademy.”

In the comments below, you’ll notice a subtle excitement brewing about Starfleet Academy. Fans were anticipating that the enthusiasm for Star Trek: Picard’s third season would continue to build towards a spinoff titled “Star Trek: Legacy,” hinted at in the final episode of Star Trek: Picard Season 3. The offspring of Jean-Luc Picard and Beverly Crusher, along with the daughters of Geordi La Forge, united to aid their parents (and the rest of the Enterprise-D crew) in overcoming the Borg and saving Starfleet. This thrilling origin story seemed poised to lead into a series focusing on the generation that followed Star Trek: TNG. However, instead, we’re receiving the successor to Star Trek: Discovery, which delves into the 32nd Century – an era when the Federation’s influence had dramatically waned after the devastating event known as “The Burn” caused all active warp cores to explode. The Discovery team worked together to unravel the mystery of The Burn and restore the principles and mission of Starfleet, resulting in a new batch of cadets being enlisted for the interstellar organization.

“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy offers a glimpse into a team of aspiring cadets who unite in pursuit of a shared ideal of faith and positivity. As they are scrutinized by their strict and discerning instructors, they learn the required skills to become Starfleet officers while experiencing the development of friendships, intense rivalries, first romantic encounters, and an emerging adversary that imperils not only the Academy but also the Federation.”

This upcoming series introduces fresh faces from the Star Trek universe, with Holly Hunter portraying a Starfleet captain who is also the current chancellor of Starfleet Academy, and Paul Giamatti taking on the role of the primary antagonist for this season. Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Dian?, and Zo? Steiner are part of the student body at Starfleet Academy. Additionally, Gina Yashere (from Bob Hearts Abishola) is expected to appear frequently as an instructor at the academy.

In addition, some familiar faces from past “Star Trek” productions will make an appearance at Starfleet Academy. This includes Tig Notaro (Jett Reno), Oded Fehr (Fleet Admiral Charles Vance), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly) from “Star Trek: Discovery”, and Robert Picardo (The Doctor/Lewis Zimmerman) who has been in both “Star Trek: Voyager” and the upcoming “Star Trek: Prodigy”.

Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are in charge of the TV show Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, while also serving as its executive producers. Additionally, Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber are also serving as executive producers on the series. Notably, it’s Gaia Violo who penned the script for the premiere episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Star Trek: Starfleet Acadeemy does not yet have a premiere date. It will stream on Paramount+.
