As a dedicated fan who has journeyed through the vast cosmos of Star Trek for decades, I must say that this latest crossover between the Prime and Kelvin timelines is nothing short of mind-boggling! It’s like watching two old friends bump into each other in a universe full of possibilities. The meeting between Captain Sisko and the Kelvin Timeline’s Enterprise crew, especially young Kirk and Prime Scotty, brought back memories of their earlier encounter in “Trials and Tribble-ations.
As a dedicated Star Trek fan, I’ve been thrilled to witness the collision of two timelines: the Prime Timeline, born from “Star Trek: The Original Series” in 1966, and the Kelvin Timeline, introduced in the 2009 movie. In the gripping #26 issue of Star Trek, penned by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Angel Hernández, Lee Loughridge, and Clayton Cowles, we find ourselves in the second part of the “When the Walls Fell” storyline.
The spacecraft named Theseus has just arrived at the Kelvin Timeline, where the Star Trek reboot series – Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond – took place. During this visit, it comes face to face with the USS Enterprise-A from the Kelvin Timeline, an encounter that unfortunately has tragic consequences for that particular timeline.
Two Star Trek Timelines Meet, but Only One Survives
It appears that the meeting between the Enterprise and the Theseus isn’t just a coincidence. Recall the 2009 Star Trek film where Spock from the Prime Universe traveled back in time, causing the alternate Kelvin Universe to emerge. In this alternate timeline, Prime Spock met Captain James T. Kirk of the Kelvin Universe and helped him on his path to commanding the Enterprise. Prime Spock passed away in the Kelvin Universe but not before he left a message for Kirk detailing Theseus’ subsequent journey after Lore’s assault on reality.
In essence, the Enterprise didn’t stumble upon the Theseus; instead, it was anticipating that specific ship from another dimension, according to Spock’s plan. This encounter is intriguing given that Sisko previously interacted with a younger Captain Kirk in a different time-travel episode (“Trials and Tribble-ations” on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). For Montgomery Scott, this meeting holds even more significance because the Prime Scotty encounters his younger self from the Kelvin Timeline, who eventually recognizes that he accomplished his most significant moment with indirect assistance from the Prime version.
Triumph over Lore in the Kelvin Timeline is pivotal for a larger win that safeguards the multiverse. Regrettably, Starfleet crews can secure only a limited success. The crew of the Theseus, however, makes it back home, but Lore’s reality wave annihilates the Kelvin Timeline.
However, let me set the stage for the upcoming Star Trek crossover extravaganza titled “Lore War.” In this storyline, the Star Trek team will find themselves in a world designed by Lore, and their mission will be to battle against him and restore reality as we know it.
Star Trek’s Prime and Kelvin Timeline Crossovers
On previous occasions, Star Trek’s Primary and Kelvin Timelines have intersected. The emergence of the Kelvin Timeline stems from Spock moving between timelines, leading to a split from the original one. In a significant event that took place in 2016, during the franchise’s 50th anniversary, the crews from the Original Series Star Trek and the Star Trek Kelvin Timeline met in a two-part comic book story titled “Connections,” which marked the end of IDW Publishing’s first ongoing Star Trek comic book series.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the latest revelation from Star Trek: Discovery. It turns out that a Starfleet officer named Yor, hailing from the Beetlgeuse sector and originating in the Kelvin Timeline, had somehow managed to journey into our very own Prime Timeline’s future. This stunning discovery confirmed a long-standing theory among Trekkies: that mortal beings can’t endure crossing both time and realities for extended periods.
