Star Wars: Andor Finale Shocks Fans with Death Star Secrets and Unexpected Connections to Rogue One

The space opera series, “Star Wars: Andor,” has concluded after 24 episodes, wrapping up a substantial storyline in the distant galaxy. Since its debut in 2022, viewers have been drawn into an intriguing narrative showing how ordinary citizens could transform into rebels against oppressive regimes or be lured towards the Empire’s dark side, willing to give up anything and everything along the way. What makes “Andor” stand out, though, is that we already know Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) will eventually give his life to secure the Death Star plans in the timeline of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Despite this foreknowledge, fans have still been treated to a few unexpected twists, as well as seeing the outcomes of key characters and some fresh, intriguing faces.

WARNING: Spoilers follow for Star Wars: Andor‘s final episodes.

Star Wars: Andor Kills a Major Character

A year after the Ghorman Massacre, Luthen (Stellan Skarsgård) uncovers the truth about the Death Star from his ISB informant, Lonni Jung. He ends up killing Lonni and leaves his body behind as he returns to his shop, planning an escape. However, before he can leave, Dedra Meero (Denise Goough), a special visitor, arrives, pretending she’s just dropping by. In reality, she’s there to test Luthen, to see if he’ll break under the pressure of confrontation from the Empire. Before they can take him into custody, Luthen wounds himself to avoid being interrogated and tortured, leaving Meero frustrated. Unfortunately for her, this act leads her superiors to question her actions, potentially jeopardizing their best chance of defeating the Rebellion.

In spite of Luthen’s valiant attempts to overcome his injuries, he is transported to a nearby hospital instead. His assistant, Kleya (Elizabeth Dulau), suspects that Luthen might be subjected to torture, prompting her to infiltrate the facility. Through flashbacks, we witness Luthen mentoring Kleya, teaching her how to maneuver in the ambiguous zone between various powers and employ cunning to survive and prove useful. Kleya skillfully evades Imperial detection to reach Luthen, thereby sparing him from potential torture. Post-hospital escape, Kleya seeks shelter at a safehouse previously occupied by Cassian and Bix (Adria Arjona) during the season. From there, she initiates a distress call, tormented by the knowledge about the Death Star she has gathered. A phrase she recites to retain this information, familiar to fans of Rogue One, is “Ghoarman. Scarif. Kyber. Krennick. Erso.

Cassian and K-2SO Team Up for a Rescue

Cassian’s companion, Wilmon Paak (Muhannad Bhaier), gets a distress call from Kleya, which he suspects is from Luthen. He quickly informs Cassian about this. Alongside Ruescott Melshi (Duncan Pow) and the recently reactivated K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), they head back to Coruscant. Unfortunately, it turns out that Andor isn’t the only one who learns of Kleya’s location, as the Empire tries to eliminate her in her safehouse. Despite Andor and Melshi reaching Kleya, they can’t leave immediately due to Kleya explaining the urgency of the Death Star and the Empire’s hidden plans. This delay attracts an Imperial squad, which pins them down and cuts off their communication. However, K-2SO senses something is wrong and saves his ally by annihilating the entire squad. In the end, the quartet successfully return to the Rebel base on Yavin IV without incident.

Following their arrival, Cassian shares with the Rebel leaders intelligence he gathered about the Death Star from Kleya on Coruscant, hoping to stir them into immediate action due to the Empire’s rapid progress. However, his revelation falls flat, as the leaders question his motives and suspect that he put the entire rebel base at risk for personal reasons, like saving Luthen. Consequently, Cassian finds himself having to defend his position within the Rebellion rather than advocating for their preparations against the Death Star. In fact, they all believe that Luthen was being misinformed by the ISB as they planned to capture him.

Later on, considering all these factors, General Draven confides in Cassian that their informant, Tivik, has gotten in touch from Kafrene and only wants to speak with Cassian. Although Cassian accepts this instantly, Draven finds it too much of a coincidence. The intel from Luthen linked to the Imperial Security Bureau, coupled with a Star Destroyer hovering over Jedha, and now constant calls from Tivik, make everything seem suspicious, as if it’s a trap. Ultimately, they decide to let Cassian leave the base and connect with Tivik, thus setting the stage for Cassian Andor’s initial appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

In the last scene of Andor, we see a series of events that precede those in Rogue One. We witness Kleya joining the Rebel Alliance, Orson Krennic overseeing the completion of the Death Star, and Dedra Meero’s end, now imprisoned on a planet reminiscent of Narkina 5. As the episode concludes, Cassian takes a walk towards his spaceship, marking the beginning of his journey from his series to the popular 2016 film Rogue One.

As the season finale of Andor concludes, there’s one more surprise in store: we revisit Mina-Rau, the farm planet, where not only is B2EMO found thriving, but also Bix. What’s even more significant is that Bix isn’t on her own anymore; she’s seen strolling through the fields while cradling a young baby – the offspring she had with Cassian Andor.
