Star Wars Battlefront 2 confirms new all-time peak – developers throw their support behind Battlefront 3

Over these past few gaming days, I’ve noticed an incredible surge of players joining the galaxy in DICE Studios’ Star Wars Battlefront 2017. We’ve hit a new record for player count, and it feels like the whole universe is here! To make things even more exciting, the developers have hinted at reuniting the old squad to embark on another epic adventure together. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

If you’re keen on joining the excitement, you can grab Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition at a discounted price of £4.19 on the PlayStation Store. That’s an impressive 88% off and it’s definitely a deal worth considering, in our opinion.

The surge in excitement seems to have originated from several factors. Firstly, the player count saw a significant increase on “Star Wars Day” (May 4th), which was further fueled by renewed interest due to the release of Andor season 2 and the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. Additionally, the ongoing Fortnite x Star Wars collaboration has undoubtedly contributed to this excitement.

On the gaming platform SteamDB, Star Wars Battlefront 2 recorded its maximum number of concurrent players, which was 18,635, on May 26th, 2025. However, this figure merely represents a piece of the overall scenario.

Boosting excitement even more is YouTuber jackfrags, who recently shared numerous Battlefront 2 videos that have attracted millions of views in the past few days.

In their video, jackfrags rightly points out that Battlefront 2 didn’t hit Steam until 2021. This means the majority of us, who are fans like me, likely acquired the game through Origin (now called EA App), consoles, or as a freebie on the Epic Games Store. It’s fascinating to realize just how tiny the Steam player base is for Battlefront 2.

Jackfrags additionally points out BattlefrontUpdates on platform X (previously known as Twitter), whom they consider an informed source, and stated that the game in question reached its highest player count of approximately 329,000 players.

As its popularity continues to grow, there’s a lot of curiosity about what publisher EA will do in response. A post from u/AgentDigits on the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit humorously addresses this situation.

User u/JoshKlein15 inquired: “Which BF2 developer stated they would return?”, to which Mats Helge Holm, one of the developers, replied: “I and some of my former colleagues have expressed a desire to reunite the team.” (as reported by VGC).

Besides Mats, it’s also worth mentioning that our lead animator, Harvey Newman, expressed enthusiasm about potentially rejoining the team if Battlefront 3 ever materializes. He appreciated the skill and creativity of the team, stating that they had many unrealized ideas left unexplored.

Excited about a potential new installment, I’ve joined countless others in the gaming community, rallying our voices under the banner: #BringBackStarWarsBattlefront3. We’re eagerly waiting for more news!

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed for a new Battlefront game. However, considering the extensive development times for modern games and DICE focusing on Battlefield Labs at the moment, it seems we might have to wait quite a while before we can jump back into the fray of Battlefront 3.

Given the swift transitions players make between different games, taking on a massive project like the one EA is considering – which requires costly licensing agreements with Disney – could be seen as somewhat risky. They’re essentially betting on capturing the current enthusiasm, hoping to profit from it.

Given that Star Wars remains a beloved franchise, let’s hope that luck is on the side of DICE and EA should they decide to develop Battlefront 3. May the Force be with them!
