Star Wars Battlefront 2 – Former Developer Would Like to “Get the Gang Back Together”

Interestingly, there’s been a resurgence in popularity for the multiplayer shooter game, Star Wars Battlefront 2. In fact, over the past month, we’ve seen a gradual rise in the number of players playing simultaneously. As a result, one of its former developers, Mats Helge Holm, has shown interest in returning to work on the game and potentially creating new content for it.

In a Reddit post hailing the current revival of players for Star Wars Battlefront 2, Helge expressed his desire to reunite some of the original team that worked on the game. “My friends and I, upon hearing about our former colleagues, are eager to reassemble our crew,” he replied when asked which developer might be interested in returning to work on the game.

Helge mentioned a desire to have ex-creative director Dennis Brännvall rejoin the team on the project, but noted that it might be challenging due to him relocating. “As far as I know, Dennis has moved up north. It’s not an easy commute,” was what Helge wrote.

Over the past few years, the number of people playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Steam has stayed between 1,000 and 2,000. However, May 4th witnessed a significant increase in player count, peaking at 5,583. Since then, there’s been an ongoing steady growth in the number of simultaneous players.

As I type this, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been consistently attracting a crowd of more than 6,000 gamers. In the past day alone, the number of players soared to an impressive 9,777 simultaneously logged in, which is not far off from the record-breaking 10,489 concurrent players we saw way back in 2014. It’s worth mentioning that even these numbers pale in comparison to the massive influx of players when the game was initially released in 2017.

For a considerable period, both EA and DICE had been enhancing the game Star Wars Battlefront 2 by providing additional content. The last significant content addition for this game, which was The Battle of Scarif update in 2020, introduced the title’s namesake, Scarif, as a fresh location.

Brännvall expressed that crafting characters, realms, and adventures within the extraordinary Star Wars universe feels like an honor, and this adventure has proven to be extraordinary, difficult, yet incredibly fulfilling for our team. What truly drives us forward is the awareness that we are accompanied by a devoted community of millions of players and fellow Star Wars enthusiasts – this inspiration is priceless.

If you’re considering returning, the game is accessible across various platforms – PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Many modern systems support playing it via backward compatibility.
