Due to many gamers returning to the multiplayer shooter game “Star Wars Battlefront 2” from 2017, it appears that the PC edition is currently more popular than ever before. Based on data from SteamDB, the game has reached a new record high of simultaneous players with 18,635 individuals. This number exceeds the amount of concurrent players the title had when it was initially released on Steam in 2020. Previously, the PC version was only available on EA’s Origin platform, for which player numbers were not disclosed by the company.
The game Star Wars Battlefront 2 recently reached its highest-ever player count a day ago, according to SteamDB’s all-time charts. This peak surpasses the previous record set in January 2021, where it had 10,489 concurrent players. Interestingly, despite this, Star Wars Battlefront 2 ranks at 100th position on Steam’s own top-selling charts for the past few weeks, lagging behind games like Fallout 76, Euro Truck Simulator 2, and Cuphead.
Although it might seem that Star Wars Battlefront 2 isn’t doing exceptionally well in terms of sales according to charts, reaching the top 100 best-selling games on Steam for a week is still an underappreciated feat for a title given the vast number of other games vying for the same spot. The upper echelons of this list are often occupied by newer releases such as DOOM: The Dark Ages and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but free-to-play games like Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds, along with the Steam Deck, make up a significant portion of the list. As we move further down the list, it becomes increasingly diverse with numerous other titles.
It’s particularly noteworthy that players are still engaged with Star Wars Battlefront 2, given that additional content for the game stopped being released as early as the Battle of Scarif update in 2020.
Dennis Brännvall, who was the creative director at the time, expressed that it’s an honor to create characters, worlds, and adventures within the incredible Star Wars galaxy. He noted that this journey has been extraordinary, demanding, yet incredibly fulfilling for our whole team. What truly motivates us is knowing we have a dedicated community of millions of players and Star Wars enthusiasts, just like us, joining us on this adventure.
Lately, a past developer of Star Wars Battlefront 2, Mats Helge Holm, has shown interest in rejoining the project. In a Reddit post that applauded the game’s recent increase in player numbers, Holm commented “Me and my old team of colleagues, we’re keen on reuniting,” in response to a question about who might be interested in returning to work on Battlefront 2.
As a devoted fan, I’ve got to share this tidbit: Helge hinted that bringing Brännvall back might be tricky due to his relocation. In my own words, “Dennis seems to have moved far away, up north where commuting isn’t a breeze.
The game titled “Star Wars Battlefront 2” is playable on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, it’s compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S due to backward compatibility.
