As a hardcore Star Wars fan who has been following the franchise since its inception, I must admit that I am somewhat disheartened by Temuera Morrison’s recent remarks about his involvement in the upcoming movie connecting all the New Republic era series. Having seen Boba Fett return to the screen in such a captivating manner, I was eagerly anticipating more adventures from the iconic bounty hunter. However, it seems that we may have to wait a bit longer for our favorite character’s next appearance.
In 2023 at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm revealed that Dave Filoni was creating a film linking the occurrences of all series happening during The New Republic era, such as The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, and Star Wars: Ahsoka. Prior to this, Jon Favreau is working on the movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, but it appears that Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison has denied rumors that it will be a massive crossover event, as he stated he hasn’t been contacted about the project yet. Whether he’s being secretive or waiting for Filoni’s film to reappear in the galaxy far, far away is still unknown. The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
During a panel at FAN EXPO Chicago, as reported by Screen Rant, Morrison candidly admitted, “I’m yet to receive that call. It seems we’ve been temporarily set aside. There’s a possibility we might be brought back into focus later on.”
Following his introduction in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian”, Morrison returned to portray the legendary bounty hunter in a standalone series titled “The Book of Boba Fett“. Initially promoted as a limited series, speculation has arisen among fans about potential additional episodes. However, this latest statement from Morrison indicates that he remains unaware of any future plans Lucasfilm may have in store.
In December of 2023, Morrison told Newshub that there’s no news yet about Season 2. He explained that they are just emerging from a quiet period and everyone is getting back to work. The decision seems to depend on budgets and what the producers want to do, as well as costs. Despite the enthusiasm of fans for another season of Boba Fett, Morrison isn’t sure what will happen.
In the upcoming Season 2 of “Ahsoka”, there’s no set schedule for when Filoni might start working on his New Republic film, but considering it’s been marketed as a significant crossover event, it feels almost certain that Morrison will reprise his role as Boba Fett in some fashion.
