As a long-time Star Wars fan and follower of video game development, I must admit that the departure of Adam Williams from Quantic Dream has left me feeling a bit like Han Solo when he was forced to make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs – uncertain, but with an undercurrent of excitement.
In a recent development, the primary scriptwriter for the upcoming game, Star Wars Eclipse, produced by Quantic Dream, has departed from the studio. Quantic Dream, known for creating Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, initially unveiled this new project, set within the expansive Star Wars universe, in 2021. However, since then, there’s been a noticeable absence of updates regarding Eclipse, causing speculation among fans about its current state. With the departure of one of its key figures, questions about the future of Star Wars Eclipse have resurfaced nearly three years after its initial unveiling.
On LinkedIn, Adam Williams, the main writer for Star Wars Eclipse, shared that he has parted ways with Quantic Dream. He explained his decision by announcing the establishment of a new company to work on something exceptionally groundbreaking. During his near-decade tenure at Quantic Dream, Williams was responsible for scripting Star Wars Eclipse since its announcement until this departure.
In his statement, Williams shared that he has decided to move on after nearly a decade with Quantic Dream, to establish a new studio in partnership with an exceptional team of designers and developers. Though they can’t reveal too many details at this time, they are working diligently on something highly innovative and unique, which they plan to share more about soon. Williams has reached out to several individuals from Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm to express his gratitude for their contributions to projects like Detroit and Eclipse. It’s been an incredible journey, he added.
Due to the circumstances surrounding Williams’ departure, it’s highly unlikely that any negative connotations should be associated with the progress of Star Wars Eclipse. Instead, it appears that Williams was granted a fantastic chance to create something at his own studio, which is quite typical in the video game industry. While the specifics about this project are still undisclosed, it’s definitely worth keeping tabs on in the coming years.
Regarding Star Wars Eclipse by Quantic Dream, there’s currently no specific release date announced for this upcoming title. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be launched any time soon, but since the third anniversary of its announcement falls before the end of 2024, we might expect a significant update on the game within that timeframe.
