Star Wars Jedi 3 Survives Layoffs—

As an ardent Star Wars fan, I’m excited to share a tad of information about the third installment in the Star Wars Jedi game series. Recently, we’ve received a bit of an update following some challenging news from developer Respawn Entertainment. It’s worth noting that since Disney took over the franchise, the number of Star Wars games might not be as abundant as you’d expect.

When Disney stepped in, they struck a lucrative deal with EA, granting them exclusive rights to publish Star Wars games for roughly a decade. During this period, EA revamped the cherished Star Wars Battlefront franchise, a staple shooter series in the Star Wars universe, and started cooking up innovative ideas within the sci-fi realm. Regrettably, some of these concepts didn’t pan out, but one new series did emerge from that era: Star Wars Jedi.

Respawn Entertainment, known for creating Titanfall, ventured beyond their first-person shooter background by designing a new Star Wars series that draws inspiration from games like Dark Souls while maintaining the action-adventure style typical of Star Wars games. The two games in this series are Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Survivor. These games follow a young Jedi named Cal Kestis, who managed to survive Order 66 as a youngling. Over time, he is compelled to emerge from hiding and wage war against the Empire and its allies. As you can guess, this involves engaging in combat with powerful Sith Lords such as Darth Vader and encountering other familiar characters.

Star Wars Jedi 3 Gets New Update

Following the tremendous success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it didn’t take long for Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts to announce they’re moving forward with the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series. As of now, we don’t have a title or specific details about the game, but development is underway. Regrettably, it was recently disclosed that Respawn experienced layoffs, causing them to shelve two projects in their early stages of production. Fortunately, the upcoming Star Wars Jedi game remains unaffected by these difficulties.

Respawn has confirmed that they are still working on Star Wars Jedi 3, with the intention of elevating the narrative and gameplay experience once more. Since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released two years ago, it’s possible we might get a sneak peek at the new game next year. The gap between the first two games was approximately three years, and given the potential impact of COVID-19 on development, let’s hope for a comparable timeline for the third installment.

In the initial two Star Wars Jedi games, players enjoyed wall-running/parkour mechanics, diverse combat methods, and a Metroidvania-style adventure that was well-received by fans. It’s reasonable to expect that the third installment will continue to evolve and stretch the boundaries of Star Wars gaming. Still, we need to wait for more details about what this might entail. Regardless, Respawn is expected to put in maximum effort as Star Wars Jedi 3 represents the final chapter in the series, concluding the storyline for Cal Kestis. However, given the expansive nature of the Star Wars universe, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see Cal Kestis appearing in future games, television shows, or movies.
