As a seasoned Star Wars gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming release of Star Wars Outlaws. The prospect of meeting new characters while also encountering surprise appearances from familiar faces is always thrilling.
As a devoted gamer immersed in the Star Wars universe, I can tell you that Star Wars Outlaws introduces fresh characters, but with its Star Wars roots, it’s only natural we’ll encounter some unexpected favorites. Jabba the Hutt is one such character confirmed for the game, and while his inclusion wasn’t a complete surprise given previous appearances in other games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, these past encounters were wisely kept hidden to preserve the element of surprise for players.
As a gamer, I can understand why the developers of “Star Wars Outlaws” are being secretive about potential appearances in their game. During my recent hands-on experience with the game, I couldn’t help but wonder if fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett would make an appearance, what with the game focusing on smugglers and outlaws and all. But lead systems designer Matthieu Delisle hinted that Boba Fett might be busy elsewhere in the Star Wars timeline, so we may not see him in “Star Wars Outlaws.” However, there are still other exciting cameos to look forward to!
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Boba Fett is occupied during that part of the year, so Jabba won’t dispatch him to chase after you. But watch out for other characters instead! I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but not all of them will be encased in carbonite on the wall.”
In the Star Wars saga, Carbonite is a substance known for its ability to preserve living beings. Han Solo and other characters were encased in this metal during various stories within the franchise. According to Delisle’s remarks, there could be appearances of familiar characters enclosed in Carbonite. However, it’s more probable that we’ll encounter cameos from these characters outside of Carbonite as well.
In Star Wars Outlaws, the reputation system and various factions add an intriguing layer that could naturally accommodate cameo appearances. During our conversation with lead gameplay designer Fredrick Thylander, we learned about these systems and the ensuing turmoil they cause. One faction is newly formed while others, like the Hutts, are well-established. Given this dynamic, it’s hard to envision cameos not making an entrance through the faction system.
I truly enjoy the unpredictability of taking sides in planetary conflicts, jumping into the fray and blasting opposing factions without involving the wanted system. This emergent gameplay adds excitement as I observe the chaos unfold among different planets. It’s a thrilling experience, like playing with a toy that comes to life.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release on August 30th.
