But others, such as Crimson Dawn and the Ashiga Clan, are relatively new players on the scene, and they’re making waves in a major way.
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment describe “Star Wars Outlaws” as the ultimate “Star Wars” experience for scoundrels, where players assume the role of protagonist Kay Vess and encounter a diverse array of ne’er-do-wells during their interstellar adventure. Players will encounter both familiar criminal organizations featured in previous “Star Wars” media, as well as new factions created specifically for the game. In various Star Wars narratives, the Hutt Cartel has been depicted as relentlessly ruthless in advancing their own interests, and it seems they will maintain this trait in the game. “Outlaws” takes place between the occurrences of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” so a visit to Jabba’s palace entails encountering Han Solo encased in carbonite, an image we’ve already seen in a previous trailer.
PYKE SYNDICATE

They’re going to be a significant force I’ll encounter as I traverse the galaxy’s dark underbelly in Star Wars Outlaws. Moreover, considering that the Pykes are the most influential spice dealers in the galaxy, it’s only natural that their illicit trade becomes an essential aspect of our upcoming story.
In the expansive universe of Star Wars, the Pyke Syndicate has wielded significant power and reach throughout various stories. However, in the game Outlaws, their central base is situated on Toshara, an unique moon with canyons and deserts created exclusively for the game by Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. The syndicate’s chief, Gorak, will make an appearance in the game as well, but according to a Game Informer preview, there are some members within their ranks who aim to depose him. Let’s find out how that unfolds.
CRIMSON DAWN
Another reference for “Star Wars” enthusiasts, although it’s a more recent addition to the saga introduced in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” is Crimson Dawn. In “Solo,” this criminal organization was still gaining notoriety in the galaxy’s underworld. However, by the time of “Outlaws,” Crimson Dawn has become one of the most powerful criminal factions, ensuring that Kay will encounter them frequently.
Instead of being restricted to particular regions like the Hutts and Pykes, Crimson Dawn operates on a larger scale with presence scattered across the game’s galaxy map, avoiding distinct hubs of intense activity. The gang is led by Qi’ra, who was initially portrayed by Emilia Clarke in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, but will be brought to life by a different actress in “Outlaws”.
ASHIGA CLAN
As a devoted fan of the Star Wars universe, I’m excited to share that in addition to dealing with the Hutts, Pykes, and Crimson Dawn, the story of Star Wars Outlaws will introduce me to the enigmatic Ashiga Clan. Unlike the well-known syndicates, this clan is a fresh creation within the Star Wars IP.
In an interview with Game Informer, Massive Entertainment shared insights about Queen Ashiga’s tale in “Star Wars Outlaws.” The clan encounters a significant decision as they aim to expand their influence in the galaxy. Initially, players encounter this faction on Kijimi, a planet previously introduced in the disappointing film “The Rise of Skywalker.” According to associate narrative director John Björling, “They have a rich heritage, and recent historical occurrences placed them at a crossroads with various paths forward. Not everyone agrees on which direction is best.”
ZEREK BESH
In “Star Wars Outlaws,” the Reputation system takes center stage. This means that Kay’s journey primarily revolves around managing relationships with the galaxy’s criminal factions, including the Hutts, Pykes, Ashiga Clan, and Crimson Dawn. Her actions towards these groups will have significant consequences, shaping her standing with each one. The Zerek Besh, however, don’t seem to factor into this aspect of the game.
Let’s clarify who we’re dealing with first: The Zerek Besh gang, led by the wealthy mastermind Sliro, has made a significant impact in their relatively short existence. With Sliro’s substantial financial backing, they have become formidable opponents. Both characters are creations from “Star Wars Outlaws” and play pivotal roles in the storyline. Sliro serves as the main antagonist, and it’s due to his targeting of Kay that she is attempting a heist – one aimed directly at him – with the hope of escaping and saving herself.
THE EMPIRE
In the novel “Star Wars Outlaws,” which takes place between episodes five and six, the mighty Empire is certain to influence events considerably. As our protagonist Kay navigates her lawless escapades, she must avoid drawing unwanted attention from the Empire. The extent of the Empire’s involvement in the narrative is yet to be determined; will it mainly serve as a backdrop for an outlaw tale or play a more substantial role?
In terms of gameplay, the Empire won’t affect the Reputation system, but it will significantly impact the Wanted system. Whenever you engage in illegal activities and informants report you to the authorities, your wanted status with the Empire will increase. The higher your wanted level, the more determined they will be to apprehend you. Therefore, maintaining a discreet profile is essential.
