As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the release of “Star Wars Outlaws” has left me both excited and frustrated in equal measure. The allure of exploring a sprawling Star Wars universe was undeniably tempting, but the game’s save system has been a source of immense frustration for many players like myself.
The open-world “Star Wars” title developed by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, titled “Star Wars Outlaws,” has been released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. However, it’s received a 76 on Metacritic, suggesting a rather tepid response to the game within the Star Wars gaming community. Given the significant investment Ubisoft would have made in securing the license and developing the game, this isn’t an encouraging start.
On the Reddit forum dedicated to Star Wars Outlaws, one of the top posts critiques the game’s save system and its numerous issues. Specifically, it notes the frequent limitations on manual saves and infrequent auto-saves, leading to extended periods (up to 30 minutes) without a save. This means that when a player dies during this time, they are forced to revert to an earlier point, causing significant loss of progress.
The title of the post reads: “The time lost when one dies or is caught is a significant issue.” In simpler terms, the player is frustrated because they spent around 30 minutes clearing an imperial base, but upon alerting a guard and engaging in a shootout, they were killed, losing their progress and having to start over. This has happened multiple times before, even in smaller gang areas.
The article goes on to say: “This is undeniably going to cause players to abandon the game. I’m unsure about the specifics of how the game’s progress is tracked, but I managed to hack computers, open doors, and perform numerous other actions. It seems reasonable for the developers to implement an autosave feature or at least give players the option to save their own progress. It’s incredibly aggravating not being able to do so.”
Surely, if this opinion were unique, it wouldn’t stand out much. However, the high number of upvotes suggests it’s a common viewpoint. Additionally, the comments seem to share the same idea, reinforcing the need for the game to offer manual saving options.

Fortunately for Ubisoft, this is a problem that can be easily resolved. At present, it’s uncertain if they’ve even noticed the issue, let alone have any plans to address it. Should there be any official statement regarding this matter, we will promptly update our post. For now, gamers on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S should exercise caution with this problem in mind.
