As a tech-savvy individual with a penchant for all things Star Wars and gaming, I must say that the upcoming release of Star Wars Outlaws has me both excited and cautiously optimistic. The game’s open world zones look absolutely stunning, and the stealth mechanics promise an intriguing take on the Star Wars universe. However, as someone who’s been burned by a few too many performance issues in the past, I’m wary of the reports suggesting some technical hiccups.

For quite some time now, we’ve been eagerly waiting for Ubisoft’s announcement about a new Star Wars game from Massive Entertainment, which was made back in 2021. The title, previously unnamed, has since been disclosed as Star Wars Outlaws in 2023 during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase. Now, it’s just days before its scheduled release on August 30. This upcoming open-world adventure is anticipated to be one of the standout games of 2024, and with its launch imminent, reviews have been unveiled, offering early insights into the gameplay experience.

Star Wars Outlaws’ mix of storytelling, combat, and stealth mechanisms receives varying feedback, but there are two aspects that most critics seem to concur upon. Firstly, they find the game’s open-world zones breathtakingly beautiful, a pleasure to traverse, and teeming with intriguing secrets for observant players to uncover during their galactic journey. Secondly, they agree that it encounters some troubles with PC performance and stability, along with a number of in-game bugs affecting the gameplay experience negatively.

If you’re curious, our team at Windows Central also reviewed the game, with my coworker Rebecca Spear sharing her complete thoughts earlier this morning. In her review, she wrote, “If you enjoy stealth mechanics, open-world RPGs, and Star Wars, then you should definitely give Star Wars Outlaws a try.” She rated it 4 out of 5 stars. Although there are areas that could use some additional refinement, overall, the game offers a very rewarding experience. By focusing on the criminal underworld and offering choices, it introduces a strategic aspect that lets you explore a unique side of the galaxy far, far away – a perspective we don’t often see in other Star Wars games.

In summary, Star Wars Outlaws appears to be an enjoyable game, and I can’t wait to start playing it once I purchase it. However, due to its high retail price of $69.99 and some performance issues on PC that need to be fixed with patches, I might not get to play it right away. Unfortunately, it’s not available on Xbox Game Pass, but you can play it by subscribing to Ubisoft+ Premium for $17.99 a month. By choosing this option, you’ll have access to the game’s Ultimate Edition and will be able to start playing three days early (Early Access begins tomorrow).

I’m still undecided about purchasing Ubisoft+ Premium for a month to play Star Wars Outlaws, but it seems like the best option if I want to try it out without a significant discount on the full game. Fortunately, it’s quite usual nowadays to find deals on newly released games, so I think it won’t be long before there’s a good sale.

The game titled “Star Wars Outlaws” is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5 this coming August 30. If you’re an ardent Star Wars fan, it could very well rank among the top games for both Xbox and PC in 2024. The cost of the game starts at $69.99, but if you’re a PC gamer, you might want to consider playing it through Ubisoft+ Premium instead.
