Star Wars Saga Continues with Exciting New Kinberg Trilogy

The epic Star Wars series is preparing for its next trilogy, set to expand on the narrative of the primary saga. Many fans categorize Star Wars into three distinct eras: the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and the sequel trilogy, which were produced in the 2010s under Disney. While the storyline that has captured the hearts of millions is contained within just nine films, known as the “Skywalker Saga,” there’s a much broader universe due to books, TV shows, and video games. This saga, however, has seen its fair share of highs and lows, with some exceptional movies alongside those that fell short of expectations.

Fans are captivated by the enchantment of Star Wars, as there’s simply nothing else quite like it. Its movies have a unique power to draw millions worldwide to theaters, turning each release into a global spectacle. The magic is always something special for fans, and they eagerly anticipate future Star Wars films on the big screen. Although The Mandalorian film is scheduled for next year, there’s clearly an appetite for more substantial content. Every decade or so, new trilogies have kept the story alive for fans, but despite Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker being marketed as the finale, it doesn’t appear that the saga has truly come to an end.

The Mainline Star Wars Saga Will Continue With New Simon Kinberg Trilogy

Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm recently revealed in an interview with Deadline that Simon Kinberg is working on a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, which will further the main storyline. Each of these trilogies has created distinct periods within the Star Wars galaxy, and the events depicted in them have long-lasting effects, serving as foundations for numerous other tales due to their significant characters, political settings, and many other aspects. Essentially, Kennedy views Kinberg’s Star Wars trilogy as a continuation into the future: “This is the next phase, the new saga that advances us forward,” said Kennedy.

Regarding the progress of the project, Kennedy is quite optimistic about its current state and anticipates having tangible results by June of this year.

I’m thrilled to report that things are moving swiftly and dynamically in our project right now. It’s progressing exceptionally well, and as we converse, it’s being shaped just as planned. We can expect some results by June, if my memory serves me correctly, Simon. You might recall that he worked with us on an animated show a while ago, which was a truly collaborative and enriching experience. After getting engrossed in the X-Men universe, he’s now available again, and he’s seamlessly transitioned into this new space. We’re genuinely excited about where this is leading us.

At this point, there’s no specific information about the plot or timeline for the upcoming Star Wars films, nor has it been decided if they will be numbered as Episodes 10, 11, and 12. Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed they are part of the main saga, but their position in the overall series is uncertain. Simon Kinberg, who played a significant role in Star Wars: Rebels, has been chosen to helm these upcoming films, which seem crucial for the franchise’s future. However, no one knows yet when these movies might start hitting theaters.

At the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event, we’re looking forward to gaining a clearer understanding of Simon Kinberg’s planned Star Wars movies. While it’s anticipated that they might reveal more major projects at the event, no concrete promises have been made. As for Kathleen Kennedy, she dismissed retirement rumors and confidently declared her intention to keep making movies until she passes away. However, discussions about her successor at Lucasfilm are underway, although Kennedy intends to carry on producing and assisting with Star Wars films even after relinquishing her leadership role.
