Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Reveals Biggest Season One Regret

As a huge fan of Star Wars and its expanding universe, I was absolutely thrilled to see the debut of The Acolyte, the latest addition to the franchise. The High Republic era setting was a breath of fresh air, and I was especially excited to see familiar faces from the novels brought to life on screen. Among them was Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh, brilliantly portrayed by Rebecca Henderson and also happens to be creator Leslye Headland’s wife.

The final episode of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” was released this week, making it the first live-action production from Lucasfilm set in the High Republic era. Though many new characters graced our screens, creator Leslye Headland introduced some beloved names and faces from the High Republic novels, such as Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh. Portrayed by Rebecca Henderson, who is also married to Headland, this character’s presence was far from biased casting on Headland’s part. In fact, she shared with Entertainment Weekly her deep regret for not delving deeper into the story of this intriguing Jedi Knight.

“When asked about adding Vernestra’s background, Headland expressed regret with a sigh. ‘I wanted to sneak it in, but the season is so full,’ she explained. ‘I aim to delve into as many intriguing aspects as possible within the given time frame, and Star Wars offers endless opportunities for exploration. Alas, not everything could be covered.’ “

Headland expressed his eagerness to address numerous unanswered questions. He was determined to reveal Qimir’s expertise without delaying for another season. The twin storyline needed resolution, and he didn’t want to keep viewers in suspense any longer. After their patience and commitment to the series, the audience deserved a satisfying conclusion.

“Headland expressed his eagerness to explore various subplots, particularly those involving Manny’s identity, the history of characters like Yoda and Plagueis, and Vernestra’s connection with the Senate. He wondered how these threads would develop in relation to the Jedi Order’s internal investigation. This aspect was meant for a later reveal, along with Osha and the Stranger’s relationship. Headland believed that an entire season would be necessary to fully delve into these stories.”

Will The Acolyte Get a Season 2?

Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Reveals Biggest Season One Regret

After the conclusion of “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” fans are excitedly waiting to learn if a new season will be produced. Although the last live-action series in the franchise, “Star Wars: Ahsoka,” was confirmed for a second installment, it took approximately three months from the end of its first season to the announcement of Season 2. Showrunner Jon Favreau (Headland) has shared that she harbors ideas for further episodes, but she recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that no decision regarding the show’s future has been made public yet.

Headland responded with a firm “No” when asked about another season of “The Acolyte” being in the works. She emphasized her answer by forming a zero with both hands. “It’s essential to take a break,” she explained. “After projects like this one, it’s crucial to unwind. My brain has been working non-stop for who knows how long: ‘Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte.’ It feels strange not having to constantly solve problems and think about the storyline. I often advise aspiring writers to take their time and do nothing at first. Only then can they truly begin to create without stress.”

She chuckled and explained, “I’m not quite finished with that yet in my mind.” It’s as if once I start thinking about something, I can’t help but continue. Just like when you’re running, you can’t simply stop on a dime.

The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+.
