Star Wars: The Acolyte Star Has Heartbreaking Reaction to Cancellation

As a dedicated Star Wars fan who has journeyed through galaxies far, far away for countless hours, I must say that the cancellation of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” left me feeling like an Ewok lost in the forest after the Battle of Endor – disoriented and heartbroken. The show’s demise was akin to a lightsaber through the heart of a beloved character, and I can’t help but feel a kinship with Manny Jacinto as he shares his grief on Instagram.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Disney+ wouldn’t be renewing “Star Wars: The Acolyte” for another season. Despite having a dedicated fanbase, the series faced intense criticism from some quarters who left negative reviews unintentionally on the wrong version of the show on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, the overwhelming support didn’t manage to save the show. Since the cancellation, there has been much disappointment voiced online, but most of the cast members have remained silent about the decision. However, today Manny Jacinto (who plays Qimir/The Stranger) shared a poignant post on Instagram expressing his feelings.

Jacinto posted a picture of himself along with Amandla Stenberg (from ‘The Acolyte’) in the final episode, accompanied by a heart symbol as the caption. Here’s the link to his post: [image-link]

Manny Jacinto Wanted an Oshamir Romance in Season 2:

Star Wars: The Acolyte Star Has Heartbreaking Reaction to Cancellation

There are numerous disappointments stemming from the cancellation of The Acolyte, but one significant factor is the uncertainty surrounding the future of Qimir and Osha’s tale. As the season finale, titled “The Acolyte,” came to a close, Osha chose to train with Qimir, and in their concluding scene, they stood gazing out at the unknown planet’s ocean while holding hands. This moment provided ample satisfaction for fans shipping Oshamir, as it hinted at a potential deepening of their relationship. Jacinto was also eager to delve further into this relationship development.

In the fan art I’ve come across, there seems to be a suggestion of a connection… between Osha and the Stranger,” Jacinto shared with GQ. “It’s something that fans, it appears, have been eagerly anticipating within this genre, or at least in this franchise. And I’m thrilled to see people focusing on it and expressing interest. So, there may be more of that in the future, perhaps. If there’s demand for it, we could delve deeper into that in a future season.”

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stenberg addressed the potential romance between Osha and Qimir.

“As a gamer, I’ve got to give credit to Manny for coming up with the heartwarming hand-hold moment between Qimir and Osha. We threw around numerous ideas, but this one has really struck a chord with fans on Twitter, Tumblr, and beyond. They’re now referring to it as ‘Oshamir,’ and they’ve been eagerly anticipating some romantic development between these characters. And let me tell you, that was the plan all along.”

When we reached that stage in filming, we found ourselves going back to Osha’s decisions and the sense of independence they conveyed. We realized that a romantic resolution hadn’t been fully justified yet, so we chose not to pursue it at this time. Furthermore, we wanted Osha’s storyline to be independent from the romantic arc. Consequently, we decided to put the romantic aspect on hold for now.

“In addition, it seemed crucial to us that the political bond between these characters carried great importance, and Osha reaching a point where Qimir has been guiding her. We aimed to emphasize this, and pondered, ‘What could be a symbolic representation of their political union and alignment?’ Yet, there’s also an intimate connection in their shared vision and power. Manny proposed an alternative to them holding hands; instead, they would wield the lightsaber together, which we found incredibly fitting.”

In other words, he often came up with such ideas. When it came to expressions of closeness or depictions of their affectionate moments, many of them were actually Manny’s suggestions, and we simply followed along, as she clarified.

Stenberg agreed when EW mentioned that a full Dark Side romance hadn’t been portrayed before in live-action. “Indeed,” she said, “and that seems fitting with Leslye’s [Headland] style. [Laughs] After all, Leslye is a Sith and I’m a Scorpio, so it resonates with both of us. Moreover, since we’re situated in the story at a specific point in time, it adds intrigue to delve into such an intimate connection because the Sith are not yet the powerful entities they become later. In fact, their underdog status makes this relationship more compelling.”

The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+.
