Star Wars: The Acolyte’s Amandla Stenberg Addresses Qimir and Osha Romance

Star Wars: The Acolyte's Amandla Stenberg Addresses Qimir and Osha Romance

As a dedicated Star Wars fan and avid gamer, I have been deeply invested in the latest addition to the franchise, “Star Wars: The Acolyte” on Disney+. And let me tell you, the season finale left me on the edge of my seat! The potential romance between Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and Qimir AKA The Stranger (Manny Jacinto) was a ship that I had been eagerly sailing since the beginning of the series.

In the latest episode of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” on Disney+, which concluded this week, fans were left craving for more, particularly those rooting for a romantic connection between Osha (performed by Amandla Stenberg) and Qimir, also known as The Stranger (Manny Jacinto). Towards the finale’s end in “The Acolyte,” Osha embarks on her training journey with Qimir. As they gaze into the unknown planet’s ocean in their last scene of the episode, he grasps her hand. The ardent supporters of the ‘Oshamir’ ship have reason to rejoice, and are now eagerly anticipating updates about a possible second season. During her conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Stenberg spoke about the potential love story between Osha and Qimir.

Stenberg explained, “Manny came up with the idea for their hand-holding scene. We proposed various concepts, and now fans are flooding social media with enthusiasm over ‘Oshamir.’ They’ve renamed it, and many are excited about exploring a romantic storyline between Qimir and Osha. That was our initial plan.”

When we reached that stage in filming once more, we found ourselves going back to Osha’s decisions and the strong sense of independence they conveyed. We felt that a romantic conclusion wasn’t justified yet and wanted to keep Osha’s storyline independent from that narrative thread. So, we chose to put the romantic resolution on hold for now.

“The political connection between these characters carried a great deal of importance and emotion for us. We wanted to emphasize Osha’s transformation under Qimir’s influence. To symbolize their political alignment and the intimacy of their shared vision, we considered various options. Ultimately, Manny suggested they hold a lightsaber as one, which struck us as an effective representation of their union.”

She shared that he frequently proposed such ideas. During moments of closeness or depictions of their closeness, many suggestions came from Manny, and we happily followed along.

Stenberg agreed with EW’s observation that a full Dark Side romance has never been explored in live-action before. “Absolutely,” she said, adding, “I believe it’s a testament to Leslye’s (Headland) creative vision. We’re both drawn to the dark side – I’m a Scorpio and Leslye is a Sith. Furthermore, since we’re situated in the timeline, delving into this kind of deep connection seems even more intriguing. The Sith are not the powerful forces shaping the universe at this point, making their underdog relationship all the more compelling.”

I’ve noticed an intriguing theme in the fan art I’ve come across – hints of a connection between Osha and the Stranger. This is something that many fans, including myself, have been eagerly anticipating in this genre or IP. I’m thrilled to see people embracing and amplifying this idea. So, keep an open mind, as there might be more exploration of this intriguing dynamic in future seasons if the audience continues to express their interest.

Fans are bound to be thrilled by this news, as Leslye Headland, the showrunner of The Acolyte, revealed to IndieWire that the characters Osha and Qimir may unfortunately meet their end.

Although Osha and Qimir appear poised to take on the world as they gaze at the sunset together, unfortunately, their fate is sealed. We are aware that only one can prevail, with Plagueis lurking in the shadows. This realization brings a mixture of sadness and anticipation for me, as I’m privy to the Sith lineage and its intricacies. However, other viewers might be unaware of this context and could view their union as a happy marriage.

The Acolyte is now streaming on Disney+.
