Star Wars Timeline Just Changed—See Where Every Movie & Show Actually Fits Now

In the distant past, light-years away from our own galaxy… The Star Wars universe encompasses nine distinct periods, stretching over thousands of years. Ranging from the Dawn of the Jedi era to the New Jedi Order, this epic tale has played out across 11 movies, numerous television shows, and countless books, video games, and comics. Fresh stories in the Star Wars universe are scheduled for release in 2025 and beyond.

From the numerous TV productions we’ve been involved in, we’re delving into many diverse storylines. This approach is inspired by George Lucas’s earlier statements about Star Wars, where he created it to travel along a mythological timeline, moving both forward and backward. Now, we aim to expand this timeline, creating a rich future, deepening our exploration of the present, and delving into the past to tell our stories. We’re excited to collaborate with some of the finest and most dedicated filmmakers on projects that will cover various time periods.

The Star Wars timeline spans from the era of the Jedi’s golden age during the High Republic period (depicted in ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ and ‘The Acolyte’), through the decline of the Jedi (as shown in ‘The Clone Wars’ and the prequels trilogy), to the reign of the Empire (including ‘Jedi: Fallen Order’, ‘Andor’, and ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld’), the era of rebellion (the original Star Wars trilogy), the New Republic era (‘The Battle of Jakku’ trilogy and ‘The Mandalorian’), and finally, the rise of the First Order (the sequels trilogy).

Managing the various Star Wars eras and placing each release in the correct sequence can be a complex task, on par with overseeing the entire Death Star. To help simplify this, Lucasfilm has updated the official Star Wars timeline to include recent additions like Andor (which precedes Rogue One and A New Hope) and Tales of the Underworld, an animated series that falls between the events of the prequel and original trilogies. It’s worth noting that the Tales anthologies, including Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire, and Tales of the Underworld, cover extensive time periods.

As of 2025, the Star Wars timeline is as follows:
