Marvel is re-launching its “Star Wars” ongoing comic book series by shifting it to a time period during the New Republic era, directly following the events of “Return of the Jedi.” Characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Han Solo will remain in the spotlight for this title, which is being penned by Alex Segura – winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and a bestselling author. Phil Noto is handling the art. Both Segura and Noto have previous experience within the Star Wars universe; Segura authored a novel centered on Poe Dameron and the “Battle of Jakku” limited series, while Noto has supplied covers for numerous Star Wars projects.
It’s a tremendous privilege – and significant task – to captain the main Star Wars vessel, and I couldn’t find a more suitable partner than Phil Noto, who is not only an exceptional artist but also a visionary in the Star Wars universe,” Segura shared with StarWars.com.
In this version, I attempted to maintain the original meaning while making it easier to read by rephrasing some phrases and using more common terms such as “tremendous privilege” instead of “huge honor.
I’ve been a passionate Star Wars fan ever since ‘A New Hope’, and over the last ten years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to turn my childhood dream into reality by creating Star Wars art for a living,” as Noto explained.
Alex is an exceptional writer, developing fantastic plotlines and fresh characters for this series, which I’m eager to bring to life through writing! It’s equally exhilarating to design the classic characters in the period following ‘Return of the Jedi,’ as there are no pre-existing movie or TV depictions. This allows me to create unique appearances for them while leveraging references from the 80s actors to establish this timeline’s authenticity.
In the upcoming Star Wars comic book series, we delve into events that transpired between “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” These stories unfold in three connected miniseries focusing on the Battle of Jakku: “Insurgency Rising,” “Republic Under Siege,” and “Last Stand.
Following the final battle marking the end of the Galactic Civil War at Jakku, we’re excited to dive headfirst into a fresh, unexplored chapter, filled with novel galactic perils, adversaries, and enigmas for our cherished heroes to tackle. This new journey will seamlessly blend the familiar with the unexpected and shocking, as promised by Segura. These tales will brim with the action and character-driven moments Star Wars fans have grown accustomed to, while also offering surprising twists on a galaxy and landscape we thought we knew. The aim is to make it easy for readers to jump in at any point, ensuring they’ll enjoy every issue. We can hardly wait!
