This week’s hint was about it, but now we have the confirmation: Electronic Arts (EA) has formally revealed Star Wars: Squadrons, a single-player, tactical turn-based game.
On the game’s website, you’ll find this description: “Guide a top-tier squad through a gritty, realistic tale that unfolds during the waning days of the Clone Wars.” Here, you’ll assume the role of Hawks, once a Republic officer and now the leader of Zero Company – an unusual group of soldiers recruited from various corners of the galaxy.
The game, jointly created by Bit Reactor along with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, appears to deliver just as anticipated – essentially a strategy game similar to XCOM, but featuring lightsabers and blasters instead.
The video trailer at the top opens with an epic introduction setting the scene, followed by quick glimpses of initial gameplay. It seems this game requires strategic placement and skillful execution as you control every team member in your squad.
According to the trailer, Hawks and Zero Company are tasked with a mission where they face a growing menace that could devour the entire galaxy if ignored. To triumph, Hawks takes charge of an assembly of reluctant partners who need to bury their disputes to tackle almost insurmountable challenges.
The game is coming to PS5 in 2026, and you can wishlist it now on PS Store.
