Stardew Valley Creator Will Keep Adding Things Even “50 Years From Now”

The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, has expressed a willingness to continue developing the game, potentially adding more content indefinitely. In an interview with NPR, he mentioned that he could see himself working on Stardew Valley for another 50 years.

Barone discusses paying attention to feedback from players regarding potential criticisms of Stardew Valley, and how this usually guides his future plans for the game. He feels a sense of obligation towards players for their role in his success, viewing ongoing support for the game as a way of repaying the community.

Barone shared with NPR that he thoroughly considers what fans express, understanding their thoughts and critiques. He values the players immensely, acknowledging that it’s due to them that he’s in this role, that the game has become popular, and that his aspirations as a game developer have been realized.

Barone additionally delved into the concept that a game could contain an excessive amount, causing him to feel swamped when developing new functionalities or resolving bugs. Moreover, he expressed his intention to create multiple games throughout his career.

Barone expressed his viewpoint, saying, “I believe a game could have an excess of features.” He emphasized that his ultimate goal is for “Stardew Valley” to achieve its full potential as the best game possible. Therefore, if he senses that the content is becoming overly abundant to the extent where it negatively impacts the game’s enjoyment factor, he would decide to stop there.

Apart from Stardew Valley, I aspire to create multiple games throughout my lifetime. In fact, I’ve spent more than a decade working on Stardew Valley alone.

Baron concluded by mentioning his anticipation of continuing to brainstorm fresh concepts, possibly even introducing new content or patches for the game “Stardew Valley“, as much as “50 years down the line”.

Although I can’t guarantee it, I believe there could be future revisions to the book as my interest in making adjustments may persist, perhaps even half a century from now.

I enjoy crafting items and have no plans to retire. It seems amusing to me to launch a new version when I’m around 90 years old, if I make it that far. Here’s to hoping!

Ever since its debut in 2016, “Stardew Valley” has experienced tremendous success, as Eric Barone announced this month that the game surpassed 30 million sales. Furthermore, Barone has previously mentioned that he would never charge players for additional content. Instead, he challenges players to “embarrass” him if he ever goes back on his word.

Right now, I’m immersed in crafting a spooky new game called “Haunted Chocolatier,” but I don’t have a set launch date just yet. Last year though, my beloved “Stardew Valley” received a significant update that had me hooked for hours on end!
