As a long-time fan of Bethesda games, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and optimism when it comes to the potential of Starfield 2. Having witnessed the evolution of franchises like Skyrim and Fallout, I’ve seen firsthand how sequels can elevate a series to new heights.
Developing a brand-new video game series can be challenging. The process takes a lot of time, and the cost of creating an AAA game has been increasing significantly over time. It’s risky to create something big and new since there’s little or nothing established to build upon. These were the main points Bruce Nesmith discussed in his recent interview with VideoGamer. Previously a designer on Starfield, Nesmith left Bethesda in 2021. He highlights that on games like Skyrim, the team could enhance aspects that had already demonstrated success, which gives him hope for a potential Starfield 2, if it ever comes to fruition.
When creating ‘Skyrim’, we benefited greatly from the foundations laid by previous games like ‘Oblivion’ and ‘Morrowind’. These titles provided us with a solid base to work upon. We only needed to enhance and add new features, rather than beginning development from scratch. If we had to start from scratch, it would have added another 2-3 years of development time.
As a passionate gamer, I’m confidently predicting that Starfield 2 will be an extraordinary gaming experience. The reasoning behind this is simple: with the developers focusing on refining areas that need improvement and building upon elements that have already gained acclaim, they can elevate the game to new heights. This strategy has worked wonders for numerous video game franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Dragon Age, which required a sequel or two to truly shine. However, let’s face it, sequels aren’t always guaranteed. At present, there’s no official word on a Starfield sequel, but Bethesda is still expanding the current game, and The Elder Scrolls 6 seems to be their top priority after that. Whether they’ll find time to create another Starfield remains a mystery!

As a dedicated gamer diving headfirst into the vast expanse of Bethesda’s Starfield universe, I can’t say for sure if a sequel is on the horizon, but one thing is clear: the game isn’t going anywhere anytime soon! In fact, it’ll be continuously enriched with DLC content that will keep us explorers engaged. Just last month, the massive expansion titled “Shattered Space” was unleashed, and if Director Todd Howard’s hints are anything to go by, we can anticipate annual expansions that could potentially elevate the game’s current status even higher!
Starfield wasn’t universally panned by critics, quite the contrary; it received generally positive reviews. For instance, ComicBook’s official review gave it a 4 out of 5 score. In his appraisal, Tanner Dedmon noted that the game showed promise but had room for improvement, pointing out several areas where Starfield didn’t quite reach Bethesda’s usual standards. Only time will tell if Starfield can fulfill its potential, and we hope that a sequel might capitalize on its strengths, having learned from initial feedback. As Nesmith points out, developing a sequel should be quicker than the original, at least in theory.
