As a passionate cinephile penning my thoughts on Netflix’s intriguing murder mystery series, The Residence, I can’t help but share an exciting tidbit about the cast’s experience working alongside pop sensation Kylie Minogue. In this delightful comedy-drama, she graced us with her presence in a supporting role as none other than herself – and it seems our talented actors found it nothing short of extraordinary!
As a passionate movie buff, I find myself immersed in the captivating tale that traces detective Cordelia Cupp’s (Uzo Aduba) journey alongside her FBI partner Edwin Park (Randall Park). Together, they delve deep into the enigma surrounding the chilling murder of the esteemed White House chief usher AB Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito), a case that promises to unravel layers of intrigue and suspense.
Many individuals are considered potential culprits, as the incident occurred on the same evening that a diplomatic dinner was held, which was attended by the president, his relatives, along with high-ranking advisors and Australian representatives – including Kylie, of course.
In the show, Minogue portrays an over-the-top character that’s reminiscent of herself. She entertains dinner guests with performances, but later finds herself involved in a delicate probe, under suspicion.
He stated that it felt extraordinary to meet her in real life since they had been familiar with each other through her music for such a long time. Not only is she incredibly gifted as an actor, something he was unaware of before, but she’s also a wonderful individual,” he clarified.
In my personal experience, while working alongside Ken Marino on The Residence, I was previously acquainted with some of her tunes. However, it wasn’t until the filming process that I discovered the enchanting melody of Padam Padam. Interestingly enough, she went on to win a Grammy for this very song during the production timeline itself.
Marino added, “There were some folks who were clearly starstruck when she arrived on set. But she was incredibly gracious, friendly, and unassuming – a true delight to work with. Plus, she delivers an excellent performance on the show, making it all the more thrilling.
On her 16th studio album titled “Tension,” Kylie’s song “Padam Padam” became a surprise success, peaking at number eight on the UK singles chart and receiving positive reviews from music critics. Despite this achievement, you won’t see it performed in The Residence as it was released relatively recently during the time of filming.
This series hails from the creative mind of Shonda Rhimes (known for Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy), and it stars Jason Lee (familiar from Alvin & The Chipmunks), Isiah Whitlock Jr (renowned from The Wire), Mary Wiseman (a cast member of Star Trek: Discovery), as well as Al Franken, a former senator in real life, alongside other notable figures.
